Questions about the 2nd pope, Pope St. Linus

How did Pope St. Linus become pope? Were there any other apostles that still lived that could of taken the reigns after Peter had been crucified and killed?

I think I heard in one of Jimmy Akin’s apologetic videos, and I think I heard him say that Linus is mentioned in the Bible, near the end of the Bible, would that Linus be Pope Linus?

Linus: Western tradition sometimes identified this Linus with the supposed successor of Peter as bishop of Rome, and Claudia as the mother of Linus (Apostolic Constitutions, fourth century).

This is what Irenaeus wrote:

“The blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, having founded and built up the Church of Rome, they handed over the office of the episcopate to Linus. Paul makes mention of this Linus in the Epistle to Timothy.”

Scholars do warn however, that the association Iranaeus makes with the Linus In Timothy is tenuous at best.

Also note that St Irenaeus of Lyons was the disciple of St Polycarp. St Polycarp was the disciple of the Apostle St John. St Irenaeus recounts a story told by St Polycarp about the Apostle St John that isn’t recorded in Scripture:

There are also those who heard from him [Polycarp] that John, the disciple of the Lord, going to bathe at Ephesus, and perceiving Cerinthus within, rushed out of the bath-house without bathing, exclaiming, “Let us fly, lest even the bath-house fall down, because Cerinthus, the enemy of the truth, is within.” - St Irenaeus of Lyons
