thanks!
Those aren’t third orders.

Third Orders are those which are part of a religious order, such as the Carmelites, Franciscans and Dominicans.

Third Orders are for people who wish to live the spiritual life of that particular order, while remaining in their current state.

So, I’m a Secular Order Discalced Carmelite. This means that I follow the spirituality of the Discalced Carmelites, along with making promises and vows, to follow the constitutions of the secular order, while remaining a married man.

These are private lay groups, NOT Third Orders, approved by their respective Bishops. I am in formation with both groups, although I may have to choose one or the other in about 3-1/2 years, They are very much the same. At the moment, I lean more towards the CFP

Both are excellent groups, in my opionion, bringing the tried and proven Franciscan Rule of 1221 into modern life, with sensable modifications. 👍

For me, the attraction is to live this kind of life without spiritual pride. Without public notice. Quietly and modestly. Good friends should know, but…for example…nobody in the apartment complex where I life should have a clue about this.

The four year formation programs give you plenty of time to try it out, and to decide to accept it or drop it

ah ok, i thought that they were referred to as “third orders” even though they aren’t exactly third orders.

why are you leaning toward the cfp?

The CFP just seems to be a bit better organized, and also has a Gift Shop.
