If I become Catholic from a local church, can I then go to any Catholic church? Do I take a piece of paper with me or something? Do I need the priest to refer me?

Is tithes anonymous in the church or does it depend on the church?

Dear Sunshine, if you become Catholic you become part of the worldwide Church and can go to any Catholic Church in the world if you wish!

If you are able to contribute, it’s up to you to give what you decide you feel comfortable with. You can do so as privately as you wish.

Many tithe by way of service (Knights of Columbus; Catholic Ladies Relief; Daughters of Charity; CCD instructors) or parish volunteer work.

Some give by check (no one demands or asks for verification of what percentage you gave vis-a-vis your salary) but most give cash.

You do enrol in one parish, though. It helps with references and records of your sacraments (as a convert or a young person taking the sacraments) for future needs.

My parish church was the old Mission San Luis Obispo, but I attended St Patrick’s in Arroyo Grande and St Peter’s in Pismo Beach on many occasions.

Once you are baptized a Catholic, you don’t need to walk around with a paper to prove that you are Catholic or to attend another Catholic Church.

There are cases where you will need to prove that you were Baptized, such as if you are getting married, in that case you will require to ask the parish where you were Baptized for a Baptism Certificate (If I am mistaken about this, please correct me ).
But as I said, to attend another Catholic Church or to go for Holy Communion etc, no proof is required.

I haven’t heard of a case where it is public. You can donate to the church by placing donations into a basket that is either passed around or an usher will walk up the rows. You can either place a donation or choose not to. There are also other boxes around the church for donations. It is your choice if and when you would like to donate to the church. No one is watching or judging.
