The only thing we have to fear is…FEAR !!!
Rick,
I admit that I get mixed signals as I read the comments from several of those who post here, so I apologize for the comment I wrote this morning after reading a few recent comments and thinking about the sincerity that Charlotte had expressed in her lead comment.

You’re right that people should look deep inside of themselves and figure out if fear figures into how they react to people. One of the lead ads on this website talks about “fear” of the Catholic religion–why this would be something to fear, I have no idea.

twopekinguys,
Thanks for mentioning your respect in terms of not probing about LDS temple rites language. I appreciated reading that.👍

PaulDupre,
It was interesting to read your beliefs about angels and about Christ not being the First Born other than a “birthright”. I do learn new things from you folks about your beliefs.

I wish all of you folks well in your lives, in your interactions, in your comings and goings.

Michael,
Thanks for your kind-hearted explanations.🙂

You really didn’t know that *only Mormons *believe that angels are dead humans?

You really didn’t know that *only Mormons *believe that God the Son was born as a spirit baby to God the Father and one of his goddess-wives and before that he didn’t exist?

I am astounded.

You don’t have to talk about temple script… There are enough ex-mormons out there who gladly talk about it and some even put it online…

This LINK is about the endowment ceremony…

I just found this one and it is quite interesting too… a LINK with “101 Reasonable Doubts About Mormonism”
Janet. The link with over 101 Reasonable Doubts About Mormonism is great! There are even more than that as I could add about 10 to that list myself. Every Mormon should read that list; with an open mind.

Paul,
  1. What I didn’t know is the Catholic belief that God created angels before creating human beings, except that I have been assured by some that Catholic heaven is full of angels who were once human beings, whatever the difference means.
  2. Another thing I didn’t realize is the belief that the term “First Born” was so loosely understood by Catholics.
What I do realize is that you know very little about LDS beliefs about Christ and His eternal nature and Divine Sonship, and seem to lose more understanding as the months go by. The disrespect chosen by a supposed believer when using sacred names baffles my mind.

If you have any questions - why not go to LDS.org. They have forums that you can ask these questions. This is what my Mormon co-worker suggested when she saw your post on my computer.
She can also go to www.fairlds.org which is the mormon apologetic site. Also, for controversial issues she can click on the fairwiki on that site’s homepage by using the search engine.

Ricko,

Try not to be a Religio copycat. I find this kind of posting of pasting and reposting my post with your underlines without comment abusive and harassing. Please don’t do it. 🙂

Charlotte,
If you should happen back here, one of the things you can come to understand about the LDS church is that covenant making is considered sacred and important, including the baptismal covenant with Christ and temple covenants with God and Christ. Those who later break their covenants, which are understood to be life-time binding promises between the person and God when they are made, seem never able to be trusted from that point on, especially given a medium such as the internet to vent their frustration and disrespect for sacred things and sacred terms.

Well I did… I wrote a short comment on where which link went…

The first was about the endowment ceremony… (“is about the endowment ceremony”)
The latter was about “101 Reasonable Doubts About Mormonism”… a great way to prepare yourself for upcoming arguments if you are willing to use it that way… Some of the “doubts” presented therein might as well be applicable to me so I make sure that I can refute them easily… (The reason some apply to me is simply that the author did not only leave the mormon religion… he became an atheist.)

I do not have a religion. I have a relationship with my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Any faith can publish a brochure entitled: 101 Doubts about Lutheranism. Or 101 doubts about Methodism. Or 101 Doubts about Catholicism. And so on and so on…

Certainly an educated atheist can make a brochure…101 doubts about Religion.

At the end of the day, it is a waste of time and only sows contention. Bottom line: I don’t believe that god will treat devout mormons or devout catholics any different when they die then members of your own church who believe that they are following the way to the lord. And I do believe that I am right on this one. If not, then we have a pretty narrow minded god.

Hey, thanks. :coffeeread: I have read several versions of the endowment ceremony. Although I see them as wacky, nothing in them deserves repeating or discussion, except what I quoted. I respect their right to keep it secret- I mean, sacred, EXCEPT for what I quoted. This directly affects me, and many other people. It is NOT something to be covered up.

wow such heretical relativism is denounced by both the catholic AND mormon churches…by your reasoning, devout muslims are in good shape too…and pagans…why everyone who believes in God will be fine…yet that is NOT what the bible says

ok so i have a question here…i didnt know that mormons believed in ‘angels’…we went back and forth for a minute about Gods…that you believe you can somehow progress into one thru learning and enlightenment, so where do angels fit in??? can someone become an angel? are they like, the half-way mark to Gods?? or are the only angels the ones that Jesus created?? what do you guys make of angels??

We believe in angels…but we do not believe that they are a separate species. We believe that the word ‘angel’ means ‘messenger.’

…and anybody can be that. So to us, an angel can be someone who hasn’t been born yet (we do believe that we lived in a pre-mortal existence with Heavenly Father before our births), or someone who has died and not been resurrected, or a resurrected being. If God sends one of his children to earth with a message…that is what makes him an angel.

The LDS Church no longer teaches those things.
The LDS Church no longer teaches what exactly?

Why did the LDS Church ever teach those things above, if it is in fact the true church of Jesus Christ?

ohmahgawsh this is soo much to read…and all this on ‘temple rites’ n stuff…

i really could care less how you pray, or what you pray to in the temple, the only thing that i worry or wonder about as far as any of that goes is if your hurting people. i think i asked at one point if mormons used suicide or assisted suicide for those with grave sins as a form of pennance…i dont think i got that answer…and the link to the ‘endowment ceremony’ i dont think would have an answer to that…

other than that the only thing i was trying to draw out in this thread was what you guys believe…like, in regards to God, christ, angels…where you go when you die, how you ‘progress’ that kinda stuff…i think that just by discussing THOSE things will easily contrast our beliefs for me, and maybe one or the other side will provide some sort of scripture (that we BOTH consider scripture to be fair) to support their point…instead im reading posts about Joseph Smith and temple practices etc …

LDS prophet Brigham Young taught a doctrine called “blood atonement”. The belief behind it is, there are certain sins such as murder that the blood of Jesus Christ is not enough to atone for these sins. So, the person who commits these sins should die, in a manner that their blood is spilled.

There are documented instances of this occurring in the days of Brigham Young. It carried forward, in the form of support for the death penalty, specifically by firing squad. Today, the LDS church denies this belief/practice. It is one of those things that has become “opinion”.

There are mormon splinter groups (not mainstream LDS) who still practice this doctrine. One example is found in the book, “Under The Banner of Heaven”, by John Krakauer. It relates this practice, and how it was used by the two Lafferty brothers to kill their sister-in-law and 15 month old niece.

Also, at one time the LDS temple ceremony included a penalty.

LDS doctrine is like jello. It changes to fit the situation.

Charlotte, you need to do a search on “Blood atonement LDS” for the information you want. They started denying it 1978. They now use more sophisticated ways of attempting to control those who have been branded as “enemies of the church” (Korihors). Suicide, as you note, is sometimes a result.
