I have been reading about a man called Al-Mahdi who Muslims believe is to come and unite all Muslims in the end times. However, my information is not from a Muslim-operated site and so I have a few questions for you. What are some relevant verses on Al-Mahdi? Where are the “signs” of the end-times generally located, the Hadiths or Qur’an? Do practically all Muslims have the same views on the end-times? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I think they believe Jesus ( Issa) will come back at that time.
 
Personally I don’t know of anything in the Qur’an specifically which mentions the “mahdi” but apparently there are a lot of ahadith on the subject. (I can’t say, however, that I am very familiar with them.) Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I have can answer your question better.

You sort of answered my question. You seem to be very knowledgable about Islam and yet you cannot give me any info on this particular subject. This seems to indicate that these beliefs are not widespread.

I’m sorry you think I’m knowledgeable about Islam… I feel like in the last couple days I’ve just demonstrated how little I know. 😊

There are a number of Muslims who find the study of Mahdi prophecies very fascinating, and they know more in detail. It doesn’t fascinate me so I’ve not done much to study it. I did check some sites before posting, though, and found that there happen to be many ahadith about the Mahdi, many of which have the highest level of authenticity for a hadith, that they are multiply transmitted.

It just happens to be a topic that is perhaps somewhat confusing for many people and thus not approached at lower levels, and only discussed among scholars and things. I don’t know for sure. It’s certainly widespread, just not everyone is very informed about it (like me.)

If you can, you might be able to find a lot more information on this particular subject among the Shi’a–because the Mahdi is supposed to be from the family of the Prophet Muhammad, it would be likely they would have more information on the subject.

Sister you are doing a great effort on this forum.

I have to note one thing though, it isnt entirely accurate that More of almahdi hadeeth will be on the shia side. they have different stuff. Al Mahdi ( yes someone with teh same name is in shia tradition) is a proper orthodox islam doctrine , however it is in the Hadeeth and not mentioned explicit in teh Quran. To be short, he is a good ruler at the end of times. He is also a decendant from the prophet. He isnt the best of muslims at the time but he will make a good ruler. ( not corrupt and not dioctator etc…) There si nothing really holly about him. That is his whole role, to be a good ruler for the muslim world in a time of turmoil. ’
 
There was a poster that I have not seen in a while named paar surry I think. He was an amahdi, one who thinks that the promised Messiah already came. He sect of Islam was centered in Pakestan, I think.

I pray that paar is doing alright.

Al mahdi is reported in Hadith. The Muslims think that Al mahdi and Isa will be two different persons. Al Mahdi will arrive first and when al mahdi will be introuble then Al Isa will land to help al mahdi fight the anti christ. This is the general belief of the Muslims.

But there are other Hadith which say that Isa and Mahdi will be same one person only. The Hadith says “There is no Mahdi except Isa (Jesus)” Ibne Majah book.

The Hadith about Al mahdi are not reliable. Many people cooked Hadith about Al mahdi. Some people did to prove some one as being Mahdi. Some otehrs cooked to disprove some one as being the Mahdi.

It is the Shia sect in Islam who mostly support the idea of Mahdi. Mahis is considered to be the Imam.

Please note that the two most famous collectors of Hadith, Bukhari and Muslim, did not report any hadith about Mahdi. That is noteworthy. It proves that they did not give it importance for some reason. But they very strongly reported the coming of Jesus at end times. I may write more later…

To be honest, I started this thread because of that site. I’m not one to be so sure about the end times, and I have trouble with the tone and emphasis of some of what is said theirin, and I see some things differently, but the thesis of anti-parallelism is brain-wrackingly interesting to say the least. It is too compatible with the little I believe I understand about the end times. Quite unsettling.
 
I am not a muslim or christion but i love to study about religion :).I know vary little about this.

I missed some points. I write them now. There is news in the Quran about Muhammad coming to the later time people to teach them the religion of Islam. That is as per Quran Ch. 62, verses 2 & 3. There does not seem to be any news about coming of Jesus in the endtime in Quran.

The news about the coming of Mehdi is given in some Hadith. But the Hadith are too many and they are conflicting too. But the coming of Mahdi is same as coming of Muhammad as mentioned in above para (Ch 62:2-3) That mention in Quran is understood to be about the Imam al Mahdi.

The coming of Jesus son of Maryam is reported in the Hadith ( a very reliable Hadith,no doubt ). But it does not mean that Jesus will come himself. If read carefully and considered properly, it tells that some one else will come in place of Jesus. It will not be the same Jesus (Israeli) who was son of Mary.

There are many reasons for that. I can post one reason here right now. There was news in malachi of the coming of Elias. Did elias come himself? No. Even Jesus said that the coming of John the baptist was the coming of Elias.

So if John the baptist can be Elias, it is possible that another person will come in place of Jesus.

But the other proof that Jesus will not come himself is more powerful, meaningful which I may not post now. Because the coming of Jesus is only described in the authentic hadith, the words of Hadith almost prove that it will not be the same Jesus. But some one else will come in his place, in his spirit.

Could you please post those verses and explain why you think they refer to Mohammad’s (supposed) second coming?

Mohammad has been dead for centuries. How can he return to teach people in the new age? Where is it written in the Koran that Mohammad will rise before all the other men and return to this world to complete his task of teaching Islam?? :rolleyes:

Nothing of the sort. Conversely, Osama may be doing things to prove himself as Imam Mahdi. But he is no where. And not right at all. Please remember that even though the great muslim clegy are waiting for a bloody Mahdi, they have got the stage set for a bloody Mahdi who will do political victories for them by open wars and by threatening every one. But all those reports are not true at all.

There is never going to be any bloody Mahdi. That is final.
