"Oh really you don’t? So why is it that there are images of the pope bowing in prayer before the image of mary? Why are their feast days dedicated to mary? Why do you BOW before the monsterance? Why do you say hail mary’s? None of that is biblical as a matter of fact God says that bowing before idols and making images to bow down to is evil. "

How to respond?

Reverence is not worship. If he kissed your cheek would he be worshipping you?
Why are their feast days dedicated to mary?
Why have they ignored all the other feast days dedicated to the other saints? If you think the purpose of a feast day is to worship someone, you don’t understand it.
Why do you BOW before the monsterance?
Because Christ’s spiritual body is present.
Why do you say hail mary’s?
The Hail Mary is a biblical prayer that asks for her intercession in prayer.
None of that is biblical as a matter of fact God says that bowing before idols and making images to bow down to is evil. "
As a matter of fact none of it is in conflict with the Bible. We do not have idols, so we cannot bow before them. The same verse that says do not make a graven image follows with instructions for making graven images, so anyone who says this does not understand the Bible.

Im encountering alot of these types of questions on Youtube. There is a video set from a guy called preacher777 who is seen outside the Pope’s Mass in New York preaching over his loud speaker condemning Catholics.

I commented, and these questions are coming from another Youtube subscriber.

All the questions are very easy to answer. The main part of Catholic Answers has many answers. You can also read Jimmy Akin.

Anyone who studies Catholicism in depth and compares it to Protestanism will come away with very different perceptions than what is being taught in Bible churches. Many convert when they intellectually study the questions in depth, but even if they don’t convert, if they are honest they no longer ask the silly questions or have silly accusations. These churches are anti-intellectual, and they don’t hold a candle to Catholicism in serious study and debate.

Actually, I am somewhat surprised that anyone would be proud of posting such offensive videos on YouTube. Those videos show brainwashed, prejudiced zealots interfering with a sacred worship service. They should be embarrassed.

Bowing is not always and only a sign of worship, but in this case of respect and honor. We call Mary blessed and we act on that belief, does his church? (I especially have to wonder since he can’t even bring himself to capitalize her name - pretty sad and juvenile, IMO)
Why are their feast days dedicated to mary?

Latest reply from this guy…

"no the hail mary is taken from different verses in the bible then the last part pray for us sinners comes from the council of trent. ie. MAN MADE. Jesus said when you pray pray OUR FATHER. Wether or not u believe that there is no monsterance in the bible nor is there any instruction to bow to one as a matter of fact bowing to idols is a sin in the sight of the lord. Don’t justify this heresy please seek Jesus (not Mary).
"

Another reply…

"Kissing some one on the cheek and kissing an idols feet and making offerings to it and praying to to it are diametrically opposed.

Yes we do have holidays for certian people but those days don’'t coincide with us bowing to idols of those men, kissing their feet, making offerings, praying and people asking them for guidance and spiritual enlightenment. Again Day and NIght my friend. Deuteronomy tells you to make no idols and bow before them. "

"Yet the arc was kept hidden from the people. God instructed them to make the arc. GOD DID. When did God instruct you to make images of mary and worship them. "

So you tell them they’re not idols (we don’t consider them gods, objects of worship) but he doesn’t listen, because he’s got a lot of hate and anger. At some point you just have to deal with that fact.

You could, I suppose, demand to know where in the bible it says do only those things which are in the bible. You could even demand that he prove the bible is the written word of God without referencing the authority of the Church.

But I suspect you’re wasting your time.

Im coming to believe this guy is not worth dealing with…he’s only 23…He believes the Bible came from the sky and is denying the Catholic Church put together the Bible…

It basically comes down to their belief that Catholics Worship Mary as a God, and have and worship Idols. I would give them a Catechism and ask them to prove their claims, that the Church Teaches ANY ONE of those things, and if they can find it, tell them that you and I will join them for their very next church service.

Question his belief in, “the bible fell from the sky” and were is that in the bible.

He is casting unfounded personal opinions towards your faith. With a little research here at Catholic.com it should be easy to give him the truth to replace his ignorance.

You as a faithful Catholic have an obligation to, “lead a horse to water, you can’t to force him to drink” that will happen in God’s time.

Gently say that you’ll be there when he has come to terms with where the Bible came from but that you will no longer respond to attacks that have no basis in fact.

You might caution him that bearing false witness, as he is doing in insisting on his wild assertions, violates one of the Ten Commandments.

He hasn’t replied back after I challenged him ln Sola Scriptura.

I don’t think you should even try. My guess is that anything you say to people like this usually falls upon deaf ears. THey are not in a state of mind to be listening they only want to talk and have everyone believe they have the truth and all the answers. I would equate this to throwing your perils before swine. He needs our prayers and love so that the Holy spirit will show him the truth of the Catholic church. This is IMHO the only way to help this lost souls.

The people you should be talking with and discussing our faith with are those who are influenced by this gutys rants. When someone truly seeks the truth will they finally open there hearts & minds to what we as the Church have to say.

Peace!

alright I’m here. I’m the guy who authored the questions in the OP and I’m reading the responses to get up to speed with what you guys are talking about and I’m sure this will be an interesting debate. 🙂

Welcome Neph,

We are ready for some great discussions. Here you have many well educated Catholic Apologists who will actually do a better job in responding to your questions then me. Also, as you can see trying to carry on a conversation on YouTube in the comments area of a video is a pain, so we will be able to better educate you and to address your misunderstandings.

We’re happy to have you along, and we’re always ready to defend the Faith (in charity, by the grace of God) and clear up any incorrect information people have picked up. Just one piece of advice: separate out individual questions into their own threads, or else the whole discussion quickly gets bloated and off-track.

EDIT: I also want to salute you for having the fortitude to stop by into the “lion’s den”. 🙂
