Questions of curiosity for converts to Catholicism

Thanks to all for your comments and insights. I think you’ve answered my questions to my satisfaction. If I could summarize what I think I’ve heard, I would use an analogy of a beautiful jigsaw puzzle.

On this thread and others, it sounds like there is a common theme among Catholic converts whom I like and respect. As Protestants, they had the equivalent of the main body of the jigsaw puzzle figured out and it was a beautiful and satisfying sight to behold, but it wasn’t complete yet.

Since becoming Catholic, it’s like the remainder of the puzzle is added for you, including the background surroundings that provided needed depth and context that you weren’t aware of before, and the whole puzzle comes into better focus now making it even more stunning when completed with all the pieces in place (like the Catholic sacraments, etc.).
