Is it imprudent to help a friend avoid the occult, if there is a fair possibility that in doing so you and the friend might encounter an occultist? For instance, if some friend was living next to a witch and knew her, then would it be risky to keep your friend safe when you knew the neighbor could appear at any moment?

(Btw this is not a joke for anyone who wants to comment).

Also, is it false that occultists are always trying to be dangerous, evil, conniving, magicians?
I’ve heard otherwise, so in the interests of not being overly worried I’m going to double check (I don’t trust occultists as you can tell).

And if occult rituals are just intentions to gain power or connection with the preternatural + signs and actions, then why can’t thoughts be occult rituals since thoughts are actions and can be intentions to reach the magical?

I don’t know what “keep your friend” safe entails. Like, what would you do to accomplish this? And are you saying she is a member of the Wiccan religion? Or are you using the term “witch” in some personal sense? Is your friend Catholic? Has he been disturbed by her in some way?

I don’t understand this fear because most occultists are not seekintg to harm anyone. A neighbor who practices witchcraft shouldn’t be considered a bad neighbor because of it. There is more danger if one’s faith isn’t strong eneough to be enticed by the spiritual candy that an occultist can offer.

I’m what some might consider an “occultist” (although I’m just a Pagan, not really a magician of any sort) and I’m about the least dangerous, conniving, evil person I know. I don’t drink, smoke, do drugs, or go to wild parties–or any parties, actually, on top of being overweight and disabled.

Dangerous? Puh-leeze! (Well, in my opinion, anyways.)

Seriously though, we aren’t cartoon villains, twisting our mustaches and thinking of tying good Christians to railroad tracks while laughing fiendishly. We are PEOPLE! People who do some very strange and/or interesting things in our spare time, but living breathing people with thoughts and feelings.

Think of it in reverse: Would you like it if someone tried to “protect” one of your neighbours from “that crazy Catholic” down the hall, just because you were Catholic? Whatever happened to “do unto others” and such? If the neighbour is bothering your friend, that’s one thing, but making snap judgements based on her possible involvement in “occultism”, really?

I just intend to warn her about the dangers of the occult. She’s friends with the occultist and I don’t want any harmful doctrinal influences rubbing off from her.

Fakename your fear is valid. I woulde assume your friends faith is not in danger if there are no signs of her becoming enamored with the occult.

The occultist that is most dangerous though isn’t the peculiar neighbor witch but the one going to church that includes a cross among their charms unable to discern the spirit they are following.

Of course you should warn her. Why wouldn’t you?

“Of course you should warn her. Why wouldn’t you?”

Just in case the said occultist would consequently endanger her or me…but I’m assuming occultists aren’t cosmically powerful super-villains a la Jafar from Aladdin or constantly seeking to ruin people?

I see. Well, I think the danger isn’t from the Wiccan but from your friend resenting whats she might see as controlling interference. So, to prevent misunderstanding, I would, instead of warning her, just share my own concern. Then you leave it open for her to ask questions or give you more information, so you retain your own friendship. You know, people don’t often talk that much about religion with one another. So neither of them might be discussing it at all.

Well there’s no need to go out of your way to provoke someone… but warning your friend is your duty as a Catholic. Just like a child wanting to run across a busy street, it would be irresponsible not to tell him/her of the dangers in doing that. Besides, God is all-powerful, and if you put your trust in Him, He’ll protect you. God protects His children. Of course this person might not be intentionally malicious, but that doesn’t mean that you have to accept their doctrines and such. Everyone has the right to voice their concerns. Your friend should respect that. Just don’t get too pushy about it, or it might backfire.
