I guess nowhere (has never read the whole bible). I wouldn’t put anything above it though, except possibly, if I did believe the Pope had Christ through him (I seen the scripture for this, and I can see it, but just don’t want to believe it)
Oh, it is all right, don’t you worry! Give yourself the time to let it sink down into you. You don’t have to rush unless YOU feel you have to, and even then, like a French saying goes: “Qui va lentement va sûrement” “Who goes slowly (taking his time) goes surely”!🙂

I just mean that anyone that makes it to heaven, even if they die tomorrow, is considered a saint. I could pray not just to Mary and the Apostles, but other heroic Christian figures, like the martyrs, St. Nicholas, St. Francis of Assisi, Mother Teresa, and so on…
I don’t think the Church would condone praying to Mother Teresa at this point. She’s not yet a saint. We do not have authentication she’s in Heaven, do we? It would still be better to pray for her soul for all we know.

I thought praying to the dead was one of the ideas of them necromancer things/satan things, like I thought that was something Christianity was against?
John tells us in Revelation how the saints in Heaven bring the prayers of the faithful to God and God responds. We ask the saints to bring our prayers to God. This is like an intercessory group, only better, because they are already in Heaven, there is no doubt they will pray for us and they have no distractions and we know God hears them because He has already brought them near Him right to His throne.
The rosary is easy to remember. There are different ways of doing it, but if you can memorize a hymn with a couple of verses and a chorus you can remember it easily.
The Apostles creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.
Amen.
Lots of Protestants say this creed too, and they define “Catholic” as meaning any Christian church. Others say it but without the word Catholic and some leave out “communion of saints” while others redefine it. But Catholic means universal, and communion of saints means the saints in Heaven are alive and aware of us and pray with us. This is Scriptural.
Then the Our Father – I assume pretty nearly every Christian says that.
Then the Hail Mary:
Hail Mary, full of grace
the Lord is with thee
blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb --these are the words the angel and Elizabeth speak to her in the Gospels, and then we emphasize who the fruit of her womb is by naming Him – Jesus.
Then we ask her to pray for us:
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
The Glory Be:
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be
world without end, Amen.
The beads help you count them off. If you get it blessed you will have the saints praying with you when you use it.

If I recall correctly, Blesseds may be prayed to in private devotion, for the encouragement of the miracles needed to advance their cause to sainthood. They may not have a feast day celebrated, or anything like that.

We CAN pray to her. We also can pray to our dead relatives, even to the souls in the Purgatory!
Since we can honour her because of her beatification, there is no problem praying to her… After all, we can pray to Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha and to Brother André Bessette even though they are not canonized yet!

I thought souls in Purgatory couldn’t really do anything. I mean, what is the point of praying to them? I thought they were just kind of in a holding, not with God, just, being purged. How would praying to them help with anything? As soon as they are released (or, “shortly,” thereafter), are they going to petition God for our requests? Are we praying to them just to talk to them to tell them we miss them?

Well, this may be news for you, but indeed, while they can’t pray for themselves, they CAN intercede to God for us. As for “not being with God”… how could they be purified if God were not with them? In a way, they ARE in the house… but right now they are only in the vestibule, with an angel providing them with the proper clothes for the Wedding Feast! (you remember the parable of the king who invited the people to a wedding feast, don’t you?)

Questions:

Purgatory, how come I have never heard of it, like at all? Is their scripture in the protestant bible?

What happens to Orthodox since they do not have a pope, (they have patriarchs, which in a sense are popes)

Purgatory, like the word “Trinity” and like word “bible” are concepts found in scripture but not under those titles.

“For if he were not expecting that those who had fallen would rise again, it would have been superfluous and foolish to pray for the dead. But if he was looking to the splendid reward that is laid up for those who fall asleep in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. Therefore he made atonement for the dead, that they might be delivered from their sin” (2 Macc. 12:44-45).

“Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison; truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny” (Matt. 5:25-26).

“Each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire” (1 Cor. 3:13-15).

“For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit; in which he went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly did not obey . . .” (1 Peter 3:18-20).

“But nothing unclean shall enter it [heaven] . . .” (Rev. 21:27).

In all respect to our Orthodox brethren, the Patriarchate Churches of the East not in union with Rome are essentially in a “holding pattern” for the past 1000 years–they are very much like a bunch of brothers lacking the firm guidance of a father, jealous of their own perrogatives, and as such their theology has all but stood still

Well, I can see a reason why they don’t want to come back:
  1. They were ex-communicated, right?
  2. They would lose all the history of their church, their family’s history’s if they’re family was dedicated history.

Hey, another question:

Do Catholics give people names? like Christian names?

What if your name is a Christian name already?

You take a name and it can be the name you go by but that’s unusual. It usually becomes more of an extra middle name. You choose it. You take a saint’s name and that makes the saint your patron, someone who is there when you need them.

Isn’t that what Jesus is for?

My name is Cain lol, but I don’t think he is a saint :o

So, why ask Mary to ask Jesus to listen to our prayer if we just pray to him?
Why ask anyone to pray for some intention you have, or add their prayers to yours? Would you ask your minister or Christian friend to pray for something? Don’t all Protestant churches have prayer requests or needs and minsiters ask the congregation to be praying about a certain thing, someone who is sick, or out of a job, or gone off to war?

The problem Protestants have is asking for this kind of prayer help from a saint in heaven. Somehow that upsets them.

There is only one Church. There are not thousands or two. There is only one. There is not one in heaven and another on earth. We all belong to the same Church and all care for one another, including the saints who have gone before us. They hyave gone through their struggle here on earth and now enjoy the beatific vision of God, but they still love us and pray for us, just as they did on earth. If you don’t want their help, or Mary’s, don’t ask for it.

grandfather, lol akward, I thought that people meant pray to Mary, like you would pray to Jesus, I didn’t know you asked them to pray with you.

Isn’t that what Jesus is for?
Yeah, that’s something that’s true of Jesus, and of every saint. But when you choose a patron it’s more. When you pray in agreement with a friend, or a friend prays for you for something you didn’t even know you needed yet, that’s something special. You might find something like that comes in really handy, right? Well, your patron does that for you and isn’t too busy for you either.
You can change your name or not if you jump horses, but I would say get a patron saint at least.
They really will pull for you.👍

Can I get a list of saints?

is this what chaplets are for, the bead things like rosaries? They had one on Mother Teresa, and such, Saint luke ect ect

Well, I can see a reason why they don’t want to come back:
  1. They were ex-communicated, right?
Basically, the East excommunicated the West, and the West excommunicated the east. About forty years ago, all of the excommunications were lifted by both sides, so this is no longer a barrier to reunification.
  1. They would lose all the history of their church, their family’s history’s if they’re family was dedicated history.
There have been many Orthodox parishes over the years that have reconciled their differences and rejoined full communion with the Catholic Church. These groups are now known as the Eastern Catholic Churches. They have been allowed to maintain their traditions and liturgies, but fully recognize the authority of the pope. Each branch of the Orthodox Church now has a corresponding branch in the Eastern Catholic Church.

The full list of saints is huge. If you look online I’m sure you can find a listing of many of the more famous ones.

Chaplets certainly can be used for saints, but saints can have their own prayers too. You can also ask for their prayers on your own. There are many ways you can use them!
