All sins are genuine sins. You need to learn the difference between venial and mortal sins.I’m having trouble with this particular portion of a CA tract on Scrupulosity:
If you commit a genuine sin and your next confession is three weeks off, don’t obsess. Assuming that you are sorry, God forgives you as you anticipate the sacrament. When you ask God’s forgiveness, you are affected by the confession you will make several weeks hence.
Does this mean that if I commit a mortal sin between confessions and it has been but a few days (hours even) since my last confession, does that mean that God can forgive me himself if I am truly sorry for my sins? I’m asking this in terms of reception of the Eucharist.
Venial sins can be forgiven by God at any time without a priest. There is a penitential rite in the Mass. Your venial sins are forgiven at that time. You may always receive communion if you have committed only venial sin.
Mortal sins must be forgiven by a priest at confession. It doesn’t matter when you ladt confessed or when you will plan to go next. As I said in a previous post, you should go to confession as soon as possible after you commit mortal sin. You cannot receive communion with mortal sin on your soul.
