Questions regarding how to keep the sabbath

My mother is a teacher, I want to know if I ask her questions about the subject she teaches while I’m studying is wrong. Am I making her work? Or work just means work that you do for a living?

Another thing, my family bought food today (Sunday). I don’t know if I should eat it. I didn’t buy it myself. Is it wrong to eat if on any other days that’s Sunday if the food is bought on Sunday?

Hi,

I only saw this just now…so apologies.
Basically keeping the Sabbath involves paying extra attention to the Lord’s holy day.

So, for example you should attend mass, you don’t have to fast or not go shopping…but it is best to avoid shopping for non-essentials.

It is a day that should be spent saying some extra prayer and maybe reflecting on the word of God.

That said, stuff like gardening & leisure activities are not forbidden on a Sunday.
We merely need to acknowledge that it is the Lord who comes first.

Oh thanks for clearing that up!

I think I’m rather still confused generally what not to do and what to do on the Sabbath… but I think Jesus said we shouldn’t make too much of a burden out of it?

I’ve read somewhere that like, even cooking isn’t allowed. But the catechism didn’t specify. So the bottom line is, if I spend more time on praising God and worshiping him, that’s alright and anything extra would be a “nice-to-do-so” but not compulsory?

What is said is actually less about stuff that you should not do but more about what you should do on the Sabbath.

I think you are confusing the Old Testament regulations the Jews lived by with what we are called to live by. They are not the same. We do not live by the old ritual laws of the Jews.

You can cook, eat, or purchase things on Sunday. you can ask your mom questions on Sunday.

Do not be scrupulous. But do put God first on Sunday.
