Hello all, Im new to this forum and I have some questions pertaining to my son recieving the Sacraments. My son is 13 years old and he will be recieving the Sacraments this Saturday. My question is ettiquette based. Our friends will be his godparents and they asked what they should give him. I have no clue. Can any of you help me with this? My wife is getting him a rosary, I think our parish will provide the candal. What else is there?

I like to give a gift certificate to my local Catholic bookstore.

Some other thoughts: a book, such as Catholics for Dummies, or one by Alan Schrek. Possible a subscription to the Magnificat (which is devotional, based on the Liturgy of the Hours, but very easy to use), or God’s Word Today, or The Word Among Us; one follows the readings of the day, the other goes through a book of the Bible.

Personally, I’ve always wanted one of the photo frames that say something like “I love my Godchild”, or “Godfather - thank you for your prayers”. They sell them at my local Catholic store (I might just buy one for myself… 😛 ) I’ve seen ornaments that have similar sayings on them too.

I got my Sponsor (who was my grandmother) a red glass plaque with a silver image of the Holy Family on the front.

Of course, a rosary is always an excellent gift for a Catholic.
 
Maybe a crucifix for his bedroom wall. All my children had one. Whenever you see it, it reminds you of what Christ did for us on the cross.

At age 13, I would suggest

Mark Hart’s “Ask the Bible Geek: Answers to Questions from Catholic Teens” or “100 Things Every Catholic Teen Should Know”

Matt Pinto’s “Did Adam and Eve Have Belly Buttons?: And 199 Other Questions from Catholic Teenagers”

or any of the “Prove It” books by Amy Welborn
