Quick (and possibly ignorant) question: Are "Redemptorists" parishes Roman Catholic?

I may have opportunity to attend a “Redemptorist” parish in St. Louis, of the ‘African’ tradition.

Since I’m hearing of all the non-Vatican aligned Catholic churches, I want to find out for sure if such a church is right with Rome/Vatican, so that my sacraments there will be valid.

Thanks!

The Redemptorists are indeed Catholic, founded by St. Alphonsus Ligouri.

Playing with Google I see their church in St. Louis is St. Alphonsus the “Rock” Parish. You can check the St. Louis Archdiocese web site and verify that it is a recognized Catholic parish.

Yes, I go to one, although not “African.” Redemptorists often run poor parishes.

It is always best to check with the diocese when you have a question about a particular parish. Either look for the parish on the diocese website list of parishes, or simply call the diocese office.

Yes. I believe the parish I used to attend (St. Alphonsus in the Minneapolis Archdiocese) was Redemptorist.

Redemptorist Priest here;

The Redemptorists in St. Louis at “The Rock” church are definitely Roman Catholic. Sometimes there is confusion with another group that broke off from the Redemptorists and continue to celebrate the rituals from prior to the second Vatican council. They are working at attaining union with Rome and have been asked to called themselves by another name to avoid confusion. They are sometimes referred to as the Trans-alpine Redemptorists and are located primarily in northern Scotland.

If I recall correctly they have achieved union with Rome already and have been in union for some time.The Transalpines, of course, are not Redemptorists proper, and they celebrate the Mass primarily according to the 1962 Missal. One would be unlikely to encounter them outside Scotland and Rome though.

Father, is it okay to join their purgatorian archconfraternity, or is that not allowed unless they are in full communion?

The CSsR is fully in Communion with the Church, so if you mean a confraternity of theirs, yes.

If you mean the Transalpine Redemptorists, who had broken from the Church, they are now reconciled and in full Communion, so yes.

I am very happy to have a priest posting!

I think they are Transalpine Redemptorists. archconfraternity.com/

They will offer a mass every day for the souls of the deceased members of the archconfraternity for as long as their mission exists.

If anyone lives in Canada, the Redemptorists have a half hour televised devotion to Our Lady Of Perpetual Help on Vision TV. (Where I live, on Wednesday mornings at 5:30 pst - good to check your local listings) It seems to be broadcast from Ontario and is lovely and inspiring.
