Quick First Friday Question

Does normal daily Mass count for a First Friday obligation? Some parishes in my area have a special First Friday Mass in the evening.

Is there a special Mass? Does my attendance at morning Mass count for the devotion?

Any mass you attend on first Friday fulfills your obligation.
 
At the abbey I am associated with, we also have benediction on First Friday, after Vespers.
 
There is no obligation in regards to the First Friday devotion, it is meritous but not obligatory.
 
I know there is not the same obligation as Sundays, but for a person who is trying to keep up with First Fridays sometimes is becomes their own personal obligation.

Any mass will do.
 
Normal daily Mass is fine. Some parishes add the extra Mass so people who cannot make the regular time have a chance to go.
 
As I recall the First Friday devotion requires reception of the Eucharist, but doesn’t mention a requirement to attend mass.

I recall that in the 40’s and 50’s, when evening masses were not permitted, in many parishes the priest would distribute Communion before starting the first mass on First Fridays to accommodate those who had to get to work.

Its called a devotion, not an obligation 😉

yes of course it does, why wouldn’t it? so would a funeral Mass or Mass for any other reason (Confirmation, nuptial Mass) just as any of those on Saturday, or the regular Saturday evening anticipated Mass, satisfy the devotion that asks for Mass on Saturday (I have foregotten the requirements). Can you think of a reason why any Mass would not “count?” the whole concept of “does this count” seems to bring a wisp of superstition into the devotion.
