Wow… you guys who say you haven’t met many genuinely nice Catholics, and most that you’ve met are the better than thou type, I feel bad for you.

I’ve never met someone like that in person. I’ve only been Catholic for 4 years, but all the Catholics I’ve met in person and many online have been very nice and I’ve never thought they came across that way.

There are a lot of things that go on in day to day life that I don’t agree with and I’m not afraid to voice my opinion on it, but that doesn’t mean that I think I’m better than anyone. For instance, I work with a number of girls who like to talk about sleeping around etc. But they all know that I don’t agree with it and am waiting til marriage. Does that mean that I think I’m better? No, but I do think that my way is better. We’re all sinners, but that doesn’t mean I need to not voice my opinion on someone’s behavior. So perhaps you yourself are judging these other people and haven’t taken their behavior in the best light. Perhaps they were not trying to be better than someone, but instead you just thumbed them as such.

Because somehow I doubt that all the Catholics I’ve met are so drastically different than those in other parts of the US and the World.

I wonder if it has to do with the area I grew up in. I was in a smaller town, where everyone was in everyone’s business. Now that I live in a city where nobody cares about anybody else, lol. I love it, no one bringing up stuff from when I was 13! It’s not terribly religious, and I’ve only met only a few other Catholics (my boss, and some people in my parish). But I haven’t really gotten a chance to know them partially due to lack of time on my part.

I almost didn’t weigh in, but here goes. I personally don’t have a problem with a Hooters-type restraunt. I believe that people have the right to choose where to eat – if you don’t approve, don’t go there to eat. People also have a right to choose where to work. I’m sure that most everybody knows about Hooters – I have never been to one because we don’t have one, but I have seen their commercials, I’ve heard about them, et cetera. If a woman does not want to work there, they do not have to. This is America. I personally do not see it as exploiting women. I just don’t. They’re free to work there or not as they CHOOSE.

Just my two cents. It might not be a popular opinion, but it’s MY opinion.

Thanks Patrice, I surely do not feel I am better than anyone–quite the opposite. I just know I need Christ and the Eucharist more than a trip to Hooterville hehe. God bless I am done.
