Quick prayer at consecration of Precious Blood

I heard you can say “My Lord and My God” at the consecration of His Body, and that there was another prayer for the consecration of His Blood, but I can’t find it! Does anyone know it?

Traditionally, it is “Remember O Lord, thy creature, whom thou hast redeemed by thy precious Blood.”

This is a good reminder to me to say this prayer more often—thank you!
 
That is interesting. Was this part of the mass at one time? Or in the missal or just word of mouth?

Why have I never known this?
 
A sister told me to say it quietly to myself. As far as I know it hasn’t been part of the official prayer in the missal.
 
The one that I had learned ( and currently use) is " May the Blood of Christ wash me"

It’s a completely devotional practice, but it used to be that prayers of love and adoration be interiorly or silently made during the elevations, to reaffirm one’s faith and love in the Holy Eucharist.

Customarily, “My Lord and my God” was uttered at the elevation of the Host, and “Remember O Lord your creature, whom you have redeemed with your most precious Blood” for the Chalice. They are not part of the Mass or the liturgical texts.

I’m afraid I cannot answer as to why you’ve never known it, but at the same time, it’s NOT required, and it’s completely devotional and optional. I always consider doing so, at the very least, a good idea.
 
I think these were popular devotions; I’ve seen them as notes for the lay person in children’s missals, etc. I think there used to be/is/may have been/I’m inventing(???) an indulgence for reciting these while looking upon the elevated species at consecration.
 
The EF missal that’s usually available in churches for Latin Mass (the little red book) has that prayer in there. That’s where I learned it.

I softly say “You are my Lord and my God,” during the ringing of the bells, all three times.
 
The prayer I learned to say when the priest consecrates the Precious Blood is “My Jesus, Mercy.”

This is an old school pre-Vatican II practice. I was taught the “My Lord and my God” by my mother, and didn’t learn till I was an adult that the Precious Blood was supposed to have a different prayer. I used to just say “My Lord and My God” for both, and I think mom did too. I remember my father, who converted in 1961, always doing the strike your breast, say the prayer and bow, even when nobody else in the church was doing it. Now a lot of people do it.

I wonder why we seem to have so many different prayers for the Precious Blood though?

I was taught by a Sister to say, “My Lord and My God. Forgive my unbelieving” for both the Body and the Blood. It is very interesting seeing what other people have learned or adopted as private devotions during the consecration!

If your dad were a cradle Catholic I would have wondered if you were my sister! I never knew anyone else who did this besides mi Papi. Once again, I love seeing what other people have adopted during the consecration. This is so beautiful.
