I volunteer with a woman who a few weeks ago had some negative things to say about the faith and the Church, and had some pretty big misconceptions. I decided to send her some Fr. Larry Richards CD’s, as well as some from the Mary Foundation and Bible Christian Society, and a few Catholic Answers tracts. I hope I didn’t go overboard! Anyway, she called me and left a message, so I’ll be returning her call tomorrow. I think I’ll be able to hold my own, but I might get a little flustered, and I know I’ll be nervous! It’s been a long time since I’ve had one of those kinds of conversations. Thanks for any prayers!

Just do your best and I’ll say a prayer for you. Remember God hates the proud…even when they are right! If you don’t know the answer, tell her that you will look it up and then you can ask us on the forum and I’m sure someone will know the answer. Also, remember to remind her that she needs to explain who were the Christians post Apostolic period and prereformation and she needs to give you some evidence of their existance e.g., writings or other historical evidence. And tell her she got her Bible (Canon) because of the decision made by the Catholic church and the Trinity which isn’t in scripture was developed by the council of Nicea 325 A.D. which was made up of Catholic Bishops. When she comments on scripture and you don’t know the answer, ask us and hopefully we will get the answer. Pax christ.

If she want to learn genuinely, teach her.

If she wants to fuss. Take a pass.

When you say your prayers, ask the holy spirit to guide you… I will be praying for you too…

In reading Butler’s Lives of the Saints before my conversion, I can recall the story of the saint who converted a prince merely by showing up every day and repeating “God loves you” over and over again.

Theological mastery or oratorical wizardry is not necessary to defend the faith of Truth. Do not feel as though the whole responsibility is upon your shoulders; this may be but one chapter in a long book regarding this woman’s gentle correction.
