If I have sinned against God, Holy Mary and the saints in both thoughts and words, how do I confess it ?
Can I say “ I have made thoughts and used words against God, Mary and the Saints many times”? Or do I have to be more specific ? Do I have to use the word blasphemy necessarily?

if you have blasphemed then I’d say call it blasphemy. I would be very surprised if a priest would want you to repeat exactly what you’ve said as you would be blaspheming again surely.

If you’re not sure if what you’ve said is actually blasphemy why not search the meaning of the word and be sure you’re describing it correctly.

Don’t be afraid. The only sin that is unforgiveable is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Be open and honest and explain to your confessor that you are having trouble whenever you are. They are not just there to sit, but also to guide you. The relationship between a sinner and confessor is sacred and they know in your soul that you are there to obtain absolution, a perfect forgiveness for your admitted wrongs.

In my belief the devil is the one who then pays the price for abusing you rather than the sinner paying the price for having sinned.

Thank you very much for your kind and helpful words. Please can you tell me if I’m correct thinking that the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is to refuse to ever repent from sin and therefore die without having repented? Thank you ❤️

That is my understanding.

This man speaks of the definition as something like attributing the works of the Holy Spirit to Satan:

Anyone like to chime in? I don’t believe it is about not repenting, at least that is how I feel. Maybe I am wrong but I do not know.

"1864 "Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.“136 There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit.137 Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss.”

The video you linked is intriguing. Yet the Catechism seems to state that it is deliberately refusing to accept his mercy by repenting, etc…

I think, more specifically, Jesus was talking about
HIS being led by the Holy Spirit to speak about the
Kingdom of God and the miracles that He performed
as a sign that those who hear should: “Repent and
believe the good news, for the Kingdom of God has
drawn near!” See Mark 1:15, they tried to ridicule God
by saying that it wasn’t the Holy Spirit, but the Devil or
Beelzebub that prompted Christ to say and do these
things!!

Good point, thanks for helping me put that scripture together

I have read some on this (I believe Fr. Mike Schmitz did a great YouTube video on this) and from what I have read, this sin is a mixture of two things but mainly one. It is having seen God revealed to us after we die and still rejecting him because at that point we know for fact God is real but we chose the devil. The other side of this is knowing for fact that a miracle was done by God but instead saying the devil did it.

I would explain to the priest what it is you have said because before you mentioned blasphemy I was confused on what you meant as sinning against those could apply to lots of different sins. So I would say Blasphemy and describe how, don’t say it directly because you don’t want to do it again! But describe what you mean by blasphemy in as concise a way as possible.

Know that Confessionis a great Sacrament and Jesus can’t wait to forgive you! 🙂

Just b/c you feel contrite for having blasphemed
heavenly things and saints proves that there WILL
be forgiveness, unforgivable sins cannot elicit a
contrite heart!

Just tell the priest you fear you’ve blasphemed and take it from there. He’ll help you.
