Hello everyone.

I’m actually new to these forums and this is my first post. I’m not sure whether I may be posting this question under the right category, so I apologize.

I have a girlfriend and I went to see her recently. We talked for a little while, and before I left, we embraced each other for a little while and began kissing lip to lip for a few minutes. We didn’t do so with lustful intentions, we didn’t touch each inappropriately, we didn’t French kiss, and we get sexually aroused. Basically, all we did was kiss the lips and embrace for a few minutes.

So my question is this: Is this a mortal or venial sin? Or can it be considered a sin at all? My opinion is that considering the circumstances, we may have at worst committed a venial sin, but of course, if I knew for sure, I guess I wouldn’t be asking.

Thanks in Advance.

Why would it be a sin? Are one or both of you married to someone else?

As you described it, the kissing did not lead you or your girlfriend to sin, or tempt you, so I think it’s okay. In your situation, feelings may change in the future, and it may happen that one of you feels lust or arousal while the other is unaware of it, so proceed with care and sensitivity, and remember that the best friends bring out the best in each other. God bless you both! ❤️

Neither of us are married. We want to get married but we’re both in college and aren’t quite ready yet. I suppose the main reason I’m wondering is because the kissing was a bit prolonged and passionate. I should’ve said that in my first post but I left it out by mistake.

You did or didn’t get sexually aroused? If you didn’t, you must have nerves of steel. Kissing for a few minutes? Time that out. A few minutes is actually quite a long kiss.

I am not normally one to see sin everywhere I turn. But I have to wonder why you would put yourself into a position of kissing for a few minutes.

I was thinking how cute and non sinful it was until I thought about a “few minutes” That is a LOOOOOOONG time to kiss, and being a married man I can tell you that I could not do that with my wife without having sexual thoughts about her. So I wonder if you have an accurate view of the situation.

Call Kenny Logins, SMMR. 'Cause you in the danger zone.

In all seriousness, how do you kiss for several minutes without opening your mouth and french kissing? Are you two just sitting there with your lips smooshed together for minutes at a time. That’s got to be a bit awkward.

It is healthy to be kissing someone you are dating. There is no sin here.

Passionate kissing is foreplay, and is morally reserved to spouses.

Thanks everyone. I’ve gotten a diversity of replies, but they have given me a lot to think about in regard to my situation.
