I read a critical argument of Catholic confession that points to the story of Simon the Sorcerer in Acts 8 as an example Peter pointed the sinner to pray to God for forgiveness. Would a Catholic in turn respond that is what effectively happens when in confession? (prayer to God)? I noticed SImon also asks Peter to pray for him, would you say that is also similar to what happens in confession (the priest prays for the sinner)? Thanks.

Yes, Catholics pray to God in confession through the agency of His appointed minister.

I just had to respond because our usernames are so similar. 😛

I’ve never heard someone connect that story to Confession, but it does make a certain amount of sense. I’ll have to give that some thought. :hmmm:
