Was it St Augustine who famously said that he would not accept any book as sacred Scripture if it weren’t for The Church declaring it so?
A link would be helpful in this as well.

Peace

Are you sure you’re not thinking of this:

“I would not believe in the Gospel myself if the authority of the Catholic Church did not influence me to do so.”
Against the letter of Mani, 5,6, 397 A.D.

Following Thistle’s lead… 🙂

Here’s the link at New Advent:

“For my part, I should not believe the gospel except as moved by the authority of the Catholic Church”

-Against the Fundamental Epistle of Manichaeus, 5,6
