Hello all,

I’ve been wondering about this for a while, so any help is appreciated. Is looking at girls in bikinis a mortal sin? Thanks for any help.

Do you understand what makes a sin mortal? Do you understand what a sin is? I’d suggest you do some reading.

Well, keep in mind that Jesus said sin begins in the heart, and He said that a man who even looks at a woman, lusting after her, commits adultery (if the man is married). The question is, how are you looking at the girl in the bikini? If it is encouraging you to look at her lustfully, as an object, then it’s probably wise not to look. Even if it may not be a mortal sin, you would certainly be treading in dangerous waters.

Did God not give the girls beauty and you eyes to look? LOL

If you are single and have no significant other whose feelings you must consider first and foremost, I believe there is no sin (“error”) in appreciating a beautiful person.

I think it depends on what’s in your head when you’re looking at the girl. Right? The sin is not seeing the girl… it’s the thought that counts.

The sin comes when you start thinking about removing the bikini.

LOL! I’ll have to remember that!

The rule of thumb I go by is “the first look is free, and lasts no longer than necessary to appreciate God’s creation”.

You might try praising God for the beauty of the woman when you see her. It helps to right-center your focus.

God Bless,

If they pass within your field of vision, when you weren’t looking for them, there’s not a whole lot you can do. Even if you admire their beauty when this happens, no sin there.

If you’re a bikini fashion designer and you are evaluating color, materials, and the style, you’re a working professional. No sin there, either.

If you allow your eyes to linger longer than necessary in the two previous cases, you’re asking for trouble.

If you start undressing them in your mind and entertaining related fantasies, you’re definitely in the sin zone.

If you know you have a weakness here, but carelessly or purposefully go to places where you know you’ll be exposed (for lack of better word) to this, you are placing yourself in a near or proximate occasion of sin, which is at least venially sinful, since it could lead you to more serious sin.

Hope that helps.
