… OK, I was raised Methodist, but left the church to become pagan(wiccan to be exact), went to a catholic church for a few months, joined Islam for 4 years, and I’m back with Catholics (back since last last thanksgiving). I feel drawn to the catholic church and it’s teachings, even before when I “wasn’t sure about Jesus or the bible” (took a good look at the bible for about a month to actually see that it was actually true, then 2 seconds later was 100% sure concerning Jesus) This has been bugging me for the last 2 weeks BTW. How do you know it is time to ask about RCIA courses?
ALSO, my daughter is 5 and is not baptized( I was wiccan when she was born, and then muslim, and she was wiccaned(non christian baptism(it gets complicated to explain) and Islam has no baptism for children, and I felt(and still feel) that it is against the promise made at baptism to not be christian and baptize the child “just to get other people to quit bugging you”). I feel like if I DID choose to become a Catholic, it is also my obligation to get her baptised, even at this late stage. Currently I am using a catholic curriculum to “supplementary home-school”.
so… that’s about it.

RCIA - is an adult oriented instruction, and recommend for you. I am a cradle-Catholic, but attended with my daughter and found it very rewarding/informative.

I would bring your daughter to church and have her baptized today

I’d talk to a Priest, they can most likely answer your questions regarding Baptisim far better than we can.

Welcome! 🙂

If you are interested in RCIA, my personal feeling is that, if I were you, I would go ahead and attend the classes. In no way does it oblige you to become Catholic down the road. Its more of a question-and-answer period for anyone who wants to get some basic knowledge about Catholicism. Sometimes that ‘basic knowledge’ is good (as it was in my parish), sometimes its not so good…it depends on the people in charge. Or, you could just get the Catechism of the Catholic Church and search for things in that - there’s a “cliff-notes” version called the Compendium if the big one looks too daunting.

I agree with the above post. Check out RCIA, get your kid baptized and into your parish’s youth faith formation classes. Get to a priest and ask them too!

lol I was afraid you’d say that.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaand new quick question.
what is the difference between a church in the diocese, and one through sspx?
I have been going to SSPX and rarely able to go to the one through the diocese(if you want technicals, I had to fight with my parents about going to their church(methodist) or the one I wanted to go to(diocese, catholic), and they ultimately won but was 15 minutes late, plus I had to argue with them about going to the one at sspx in the afternoon.) basically, If I actually want to go to mass without argument, I have to work in the morning, and go to the one through SSPX at 4pm. if I request off, I am obligated to go to their church or mass at 8 am(when that happens, work usually has me go close, so I don’t get home till midnight, 1 o clock.) I was told by a friend who was raised and got married in SSPX that their marriage is considered not valid within the diocese.

SSPX is currently in irregular communion with Rome (there are LOTS of threads about this on CAF and they can get very technical and argumentative, lol!). They believe that the Pope, the Magisterium and local bishops have valid authority, but they’re not really getting along right now.

I know, I have been reading them, but some of the statements said against them I honestly don’t understand or just speak mean about them, and say nothing else. If I really wanted to read some of the negative comments about a church, I’ll just go to a muslim forum and let it be.
