My son and I were in Cub Scouts and then Boy Scouts for five years. I am not impressed with the direction this group has taken. It was rather unfulfilling throughout and we finally stopped. We now have a lot more time at home to grow in the faith together. We do the daily readings together and more. It is fantastic.

We now have time to go on our own canoe trips as well. This is a lot more fun and efficient.

Scouting was a noble group at one time. It still may be a good group to grow with in pockets of communities across the USA. My impression however is that this group is waning.

Amen. All Christians/people of good will should quit scouts in protest at their connection with planned parenthood.

From my understanding though, the Boy Scouts do not have the same affliliation/partnership with Planned Parenthood as the Girl scouts do. And the affiliation is exactly why we quit the Girls Scouts a couple of years ago.

I assure you that the Boy Scouts of America do NOT have any relationship with Planned Parenthood of America. They do not allow gays to be scout leaders, and also prohibit atheists and agnostics from membership as inappropriate role models.

They require that scouts say the Pledge of Allegiance, 60% of scout troops are affiliated with religious institutions (ours is in a Catholic church and has a strong relationship with the Knights of Columbus), and has always recognized spirituality as an integral part of scouting. As Scouting founder Robert Baden-Powell said, in the first Scout handbook "“No man is much good unless he believes in God and obeys His laws.”

The Scout Oath states:

Scout Oath
On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

According to the Bylaws of Scouting, “The Boy Scouts of America maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God. In the first part of the Scout Oath or Promise the member declares, ‘On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law.’ The recognition of God as the ruling and leading power in the universe and the grateful acknowledgment of His favors and blessings are necessary to the best type of citizenship and are wholesome precepts in the education of the growing members.”

Ain’t no shame in any of that.

In contrast, the Girl Scouts allow lesbian leaders and allow members to exclude or substitute another word for “God” in the Pledge of Allegiance. There is a Christian alternative to the GSA that was formed in protest, the American Heritage Girls: ahgonline.org/ , some of which are affiliated with Catholic churches: ahgonline.org/uploads/dioceseofrockfordendorsement.pdf. I know there’s one down at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Tucson.

The Boy Scouts are one of the last refuges for conservative, traditional people in America.

What connection? I read the link, it was just someone rambling.

I’m quite active in scouts and have never seen or heard of this.

This is an INTERNET RUMOR that has been circulating since March of 2010 and is an evil and cruel rumor. It is not difficult and only fair to check this kind of information out on the internet before posting rumors like this and spreading such negative and false information.
This was written by a guest blogger, not a real journalist, who did not check her facts and used an old, false rumor as the basis of her so-called “story”.

You might want to read this link, and there are many more out there that provide a connection between the Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood. We extensively researched the connection before we quit the GS four years ago. Our local council could not definitely say our dues were not being funded to programs provided by Planned Parenthood in our area.

It really depends on the local leadership.

Ours are Christians. I’m sure some non-christian slips through every now and again.

You have to be active in your childs participation. Any questionable behavior will be noticed and stopped if you attend all the meetings and campouts with your child.
