I really wanted to discuss this with someone but I don’t see my friends until Sunday after Mass. And I’ll get advice that I probably wouldn’t get from them.

I posted back in November about being yelled at at work. Well, it got worse after that. First, I was barely worked (the managers kept hiring new people when there was no budget or money to hire new people). The last time I worked, which was the first Monday in January, I was again yelled at, not once but twice for things completely out of my control. Since that day I have not been called into work at all. Not once. I was supposed to go to a meeting last month but it was on my birthday (meetings are held on Sunday nights) when it was originally scheduled for the following Sunday. When I told the manager I wasn’t going to make the meeting because it was my birthday, I was told that I was going to be written up for my birthday, not for attending the meeting which would be policy. I told her fine, but I wasn’t going to be at the meeting.

Wednesday I found out I have another meeting at work this coming Sunday and it left me stressed out and worrying over gas and the time it would consume (two hour meeting with a total of a around a two hour commute in total so at least four hours of my Sunday night wasted). I decided that I should be probably quit this job since all it does is stress me out, I’m not treated very well, and they’re not giving me hours. So when I called in this morning to see if I was needed (I don’t know why I bothered since I knew I would get a no), I found out that they were lying to me (saying that they didn’t have the hours or the shipment) and that they were working other people over me (I’ve worked there longer so I’m supposed to be scheduled first over others who do the same work). So I decided that I’m quitting. I don’t want this job and isn’t benefiting me in any way.

So now I really have to find a new job and soon since I don’t have the financial reserves I would like to survive (right now I’m not sure how I’m going to pay bills let alone eat in the next two weeks). So just looking for prayers. And maybe a kick in the pants. I do have an updated resume and am working with Career Services at school (and yes I’ve graduated but one of the nice alumni perks is help finding a job even if you graduated years before) to apply to jobs closer to my field.

I pray you find a new job. it appears the last job wasn’t much of a job and is already over.

Hold on to the Career Service. Those people can help. You don’t need to be yelled at or shamelessly exploited. I’ve recently lost a job in which I wasn’t yelled at, but I was otherwise treated badly, such as being blamed by default or given more tasks than time and then blamed for that and for pointing out that I wasn’t in a position to refuse the other person giving orders - or that I tried but the other person didn’t listen. In the end, I’m happy I’m done with them.

Sorry I don’t have any useful advice, but I do have to ask, what kind of weirdos have sunday night meetings? I have never even had a saturday or sunday ‘day’ meeting in all the time I spent working for 24/7 IT shops. I don’t see why the managers put up with such a thing, unless they don’t attend.

Hello there!
This is amazing, to find out that someone else went through the same situation as I did.
I did not have a choice but to present my resignation, after eight years with a large retail corporation in America. I made the decision after my reputation and my spotless record was damaged by the power of a supervisor and her manager received, certainly not from above. This just happened on the 9th and because I quit, I don’t have the right to unemployment or any other benefit. I pray over and over “Jesus, I trust in You.”
After some abuse from the management team, I complained to the HR. For my dismay, HR left me voiceless to the point that I could not endure anymore all the mental abuse these greedy individuals gave me. I presented my letter of resignation to the head of the department during our meeting, so that the company couldn’t accuse me falsely of some wrong doing. I just opened my eyes and realized that this has been the practice of this company. I’ve worked knowing that all I did was a prayer to the owner of everything. For Him, I worked ethically all these eight years and my conscience is at peace.
All I can say is that these are great moments to be alive! Satan is throwing his last battles against Christians precisely because Jesus won already our victory.
Until I find a new job, I am committed to pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament for the unemployed and all the needs of the world. Y:thumbsup: ou please, do the same, I left with no money and the bills start piling up.
GOD IS A JUST JUDGE AND I LEAVE IT TO HIM!!
This is my pray for forgiveness.

It’s awful that they’re treating you that way. It is obviously effecting you deeply. I think you should see your doctor and request to be placed on medical leave due to stress. Use the time to find a new job.

I know many people, my husband included, who have been looking for work for such a long time now. They would take a job where they were yelled at, they will work on their birthday, they would be happy to work on any day.

You sound like an inexperienced and immature person. Look for a mentor who can assist you with facing the challanges of the work world.

Prayers for all the unemployed.

How immature is it to quit, when it sounds like there almost wasn’t a job to quit? Perhaps it’s more immature to constantly hang on despite how mournfully poorly things had already got? There’s more than just taking off on their birthday that is written about you know. I think there’s a strong chance I would had quit when I found they were stupid enough to have “sunday night” meetings (but at least try to negotiate it out first), but at least I’m not penniless. They talked about their last day worked was the first monday of january, with practically no further prospects, what part of qutting a job like that is immature? I mean, one day worked in like six weeks, they didn’t have a job to quit from really. I bet that one day every six weeks is really going to be missed, don’t you?

I intend to keep in contact with them and they have already provided me with several job leads. I was already in contact with them before I made this decision. I am grateful that they want to help find a new job.

I realized that I was just the scapegoat and convenient target for my managers inability and failures. It’s only gone downhill since we got the managers we have. They’ve been pushing anyone who has been there over a year and a half or is “too old” for their image of an employee.

It’s retail. The company says they have to be on a Sunday. The store manager dictates the time. She also likes to change the meeting from one Sunday to the next on a whim and not tell anyone till the last minute. Last month’s meeting was scheduled for the 25th. All the signs said the 25th. On Thursday the 15th, I found out it had been changed to the 18th (my birthday and I had plans). It was policy that as long as you called in ahead of time and told the managers why you couldn’t make it you were excused. Now, unless you’re dead or you’re liked by the managers, you get written up even if you have no car, no gas money, and are stuck 1000 miles away. The managers run the meeting so they are there anyways.

I’m sorry that you went through this. I got more sympathy and respect from customers than I do from my managers. I can’t even go to HR because all they will do is support my managers. I just wasn’t meant to be in retail. Now, though I was doing it before, I can focus on getting into my field (criminal justice).

I can’t afford to see a doctor. But thanks for the advice. I figure it’s just easier to quit. At this point, I haven’t worked at all. No hours, no money so why bother continuing with a job that doesn’t want me anymore. I’m already looking for a new job, especially one closer to home and in my field. I’ve already got one possibility that I am in the process of applying for.

True. Valid stress is a valid cause for doctor’s leave.
Like I said, can’t afford a doctor. I figure it’s easier to cut out the source of the stress (which is the managers, the commute to and from the store where I work, having to call in to see if there’s work, my day wrecked if I do get called in because of the commute, the actual shift, the commute home.) The actual job, processing, was never a real problem. Everything else got worse. But thanks.

So sunday is the shortest day the store is open, and that’s generally why it not only is done on sunday, but also done in the evenings? A seeming scatter-brain running a retail shop, who would had guessed? Yeah, you know those retailers, old people can’t ever sell anything so bring in the fresh often knowledgeless young’uns all the time. They want to make sure that customers see potential dates in their sales people.

You know I read this, I got angry. But then I realized I asked for it. I asked to be treated like a liar and an ungrateful bastard. Yes, your post hurt. It still does. I’m sorry that I refuse to be treated like dog doodoo just because you say so.

But I’m sorry, this job isn’t worth it anymore. It’s just retail minimum wage. If your husband wants it, he can have it. But he has to have it under the dame conditions I do. You have to live at least an hours commute away. You have to show up on time (ten minutes early otherwise you get written up for being late). You have to clock in exactly at the exact time of you shift. You ask the manager who you are supposed to do and you get five sets of contradictory instructions that must be followed to the letter. You get further instructions from another manager which contradict the first manager’s instructions. You have to now follow both instructions or you get written up and yelled at. Sometimes in front of customers. You start on the instructions the first two managers have given you. A third manager pulls you from what you are doing and sets you on a project that must be completely RIGHT THIS MINUTE. You start on the project because this person is a manager and telling them you have work from two other managers to do first isn’t allowed. After barely starting on the project, three customers come up to you and want help. You are required to help them so you momentarily interrupt the project to help them. You finish helping them when the first manager comes up to you and demands to know why they work they first gave you isn’t finished. Telling them that you were given instructions and a project by two other managers isn’t allowed so you stand there quietly while getting yelled at. The second manager comes up at this time and demands to know why their instructions to you haven’t been followed and done. Again, telling them that you were given work by the first manager and the third manager isn’t allowed so you stand there quietly while getting yelled at. The third manager comes up at this point and demands to know why the project isn’t finished. Again, telling them you have work from the first two managers isn’t allowed so you stand there quietly while you get yelled at. A customer comes up the group and ask for help. The managers start talking with each (though not to share the fact that they each gave you different work and that you have work to finish before you can start on any of the other work) so you end up helping the customer, which you get yelled at for because that isn’t your job. Again, telling them that it is now company policy for you to help customers if they ask for your help is not allowed you again stand quietly while getting yelled. You are not allowed to tell a manager anything except that a customer has asked for them specifically or that they have a phone call. All of this has happened in the first twenty minutes of your four hour shift, though they might be keeping you for another four hours but don’t expect them to tell you until you go to clock out after the first four. And don’t expect to take your full break either. Expect this to repeat throughout your shift. Many times. Every shift you work. Also expect them to hire 20 new people to do the same job but they don’t train those 20 new people. They just give them your hours, the same wage, and tell you that they have no hours or shipment but they will let you know first thing when they can use. They continue to hire 20 new people a week. There is no money for those new people but the hiring manager keeps hiring them. People who have worked there for over a year keep seeing no hours while the new people get several shifts a week. The new people still receive no training and the old people get told to they’ll be written up for not working (the same people who aren’t scheduled by the managers to work).

I learned not to take a break because it ended up being pointless since I got told to go back to work just as soon as I told the manager I was going on a break. Or they wouldn’t tell me I could take a break. I once worked a six hour shift without a break. Legally, I am supposed to have a 15 minute break. I was never told and worked the entire shift.

So I suppose at 27, whose managers are younger and one just and I mean just graduate high school, then I am immature. Two college degrees, a future in federal law enforcement, serious Catholic, yeah, I’m immature. I’ve worked at this job for nearly two years. When I started there, except for the store manager, the managers were excellent and helped the employees to become better at their jobs and to learn new skills all the time. The managers we have now just focus on money. They don’t see the employees. In the end, they only hurt themselves.

kage_ar is allowed their opinion. I don’t agree with it but that’s okay. Being written up for missing a meeting is policy. Written up because it’s your birthday is just wrong. As for Sunday meetings, it’s company policy. It was worse when I had to work Sundays because then I was more stressed out and several times I had to miss Mass. After being there six months, I made sure that I didn’t have to work Sundays so I could go to Mass. Mass was more important. When retailers hiring, at least around here, being available on Saturdays and Sundays, the two biggest shopping days, was the key to getting hired. If you didn’t have the availability, then you were most likely not going to get hired.

You’re right, it’s not a job, not anymore.

So sunday is the shortest day the store is open, and that’s generally why it not only is done on sunday, but also done in the evenings? A seeming scatter-brain running a retail shop, who would had guessed? Well, I know at least with the store I work for, the range they hire in is 18-25. I was hired at 25. We did have another employee who was 30 but she ended up quitting but she had a lot health problems for awhile that she had to deal with. She had another job lined up, thankfully. My mangers are younger than I am.

It’s image and marketing. 18-25 is the ideal age of beginnings, new horizons, and being on your own. That age range is young, still idealistic, doesn’t have too many responsibilities (it image not reality), and can afford to shop and have fun.

Sunday may be the shortest day the store is open but it’s also the busiest day and the one to net the biggest profit. The store I work at, especially since it’s in a mall, looks to make around $50000 on the weekend, most of that on Sunday. It’s also the second largest store in our district (the region we are in as outlined on the company map). A typical sales plan (what they expect to make) for a Sunday is $28,000 and the store is only open from 11-6pm.

But this store is part of a chain. A very profitable chain that hasn’t closed or proposed closing any of it’s stores during this economic crisis. Yet, even it has been hit but the managers I work for don’t seem to understand that hiring new people when there is no money to hire, train, and work them is a bad idea.

Pacbox: My goodness, you had younger people tell you that you are immature. Why, you must be a first-born like me:D Although I wouldn’t think first-borns in sales wouldn’t be all that common. Why you must had given your female boss a suggestion without her asking for your opinion at some time:manvspc:. Shame on you.
