				 					Moms, just like you, have taken action on our Hershey's, Campbell's Soup, and "Family Guy" campaigns, which are getting moms involved in what their children view on television. Moms are furious over the offensive material Quiznos included in its latest advertisement. One version of Quiznos’ newest television and radio ad uses hidden homosexual innuendos to sell sandwiches.

You may view the ad here. Warning: It includes gay sexual content and references the pro-gay lifestyle.

**Take Action

Send an email to Quiznos**, telling them there are better ways to sell sandwiches than to sink to the level of homosexual innuendos.

To have a greater impact, please take one more minute to go one step further and contact the Quiznos’ director of marketing with a personal phone call in hopes of getting this appalling commercial off the air.

Well, Quiznos is the one that had the commercial with dead rats playing guitar, a few years ago, so I wouldn’t expect too much from them. :rolleyes:
 
I guess my mind isn’t sufficiently in the gutter. When I first saw this ad on TV, I saw it as a parody of HAL, the talking computer in 2001:A Space Odyssey.

Hey, I’m not endorsing inappropriate advertising, but putting something in the oven is now equivalent to “gay sexual content?” Joe McCarthy, call your office.

I totally agree. Has the world gone crazy and now we see homosexual sex in EVERYTHING!!??? :eek: I saw this ad a few days ago and just thought it was a funny take on HAL.

You know, my husband who really isn’t easily offended, said he thought the commercial was over the top…it’s ‘funny,’ he said, but he thought it was ‘weird.’ Again, this is coming from someone who totally disagrees with me on Family Guy and South Park :rolleyes: but that’s another story. 😃

I haven’t seen the commercial yet, but the description sounds silly. I guess I don’t understand why fast food companies, or companies in general, need to resort to such stupid forms of advertising, if their food is good…and Quizno’s is good. It doesn’t need this type of publicity. (but negative publicity is free advertising, maybe that’s why they did it?) 🤷

I also read about Arby’s is that the place, where the woman who hosts that cooking competition show (I can’t recall the name of the host or the show) was seen in one of their ads, licking the juice off of her arm, as she bites into one of their sandwiches, and I think the Food Network is angry with her for doing that. Again, why is sexual imagery necessary to sell food? :confused:

buffalo: I watched that ad and found nothing offensive in it (except for the use of the word “sexy”), and definitely no illusions to homosexuals. The whole thing is an obvious HAL 9000 parody. Please explain to us what this has to do with homosexuals. (BTW, I’m a young male who would definitely notice these innuendos if they were present.)

This is why I always ignore these “boycotts” – those who promote them tend to see support of homosexuality where there is none, making all Christians look ignorant in the end.

I dont’ really see a homosexual connection… I just think it’s totally stupid and it would NOT inspire to me to go run out and eat at Quizno’s.
 
When I first saw that add I was a little shocked, and thought to myself- I must have a gutter mind they couldnt be referring to what I think they are!!! I have never heard of HAL so that is perhaps why I got that impression. I am glad I am not the only one who thought that way though-I thought it was me.

2001 A Space Odyssey is not just a sci-fi movie, it’s THE sci-fi movie, possibly the most famous Sci-Fi movie of all.

If you haven’t heard of it, well–IMO, there are certain cultural icons that people really need to know about, even if they aren’t interested in these topics. I think HAL is one of those cultural icons. It’s part of our history in the U.S.

Did you know that HAL is actually a play on the initials IBM? Take the word “HAL” and change the letters to the letter AFTER the initials:

H becomes I
A becomes B
L becomes M

Isn’t that cool?

I don’t eat at Quizno’s ever since that rodent ad. Besides, I just don’t like the sandwiches–they’re too dry and the crumbs spill all over and go down my shirt and get grease on my clothes. I prefer simple Subway subs (and they’ll heat them for you if you like toasted sandwiches).

I think that Christians really have to be careful not to see a demon behind every bush, or on every commercial. I saw nothing in the commercial except a satire of 2001 SO and HAL. As for the idea that a sandwich is a phallic symbol–oh, c’mon! Are the fishsticks on the minced fish ad (the cute little girl) also phallic symbols, and because of the involvment of the little girl, is this ad a veiled reference to child porn? C’mon.

Yes, the *gigantic *double quarter pounder from Mcdonalds is not quite as unhealthy as a Quiznos sub!

The movie “Super Size Me” got it wrong…they should have been investigating Quiznos, not Mcdonalds…

I am glad there was a better explanation.
 
two things:
  1. like a lot of others i thought cheap HAL knock off
  2. Schlozktys(sp) has better sandwiches anyways

Eughh.

I remember at the time those rat-ads came out that I asked on a teenaged skating online board. Turns out they weren’t rats, but they were some musical phenomenon in Europe (England?). It’s not something that most Americans would have known about unless they were into English popular music.

But they looked like dead rats to me.

My 23-year-old daughter is the same way–she won’t eat Quizno’s either because she is afraid those rats will be in her sandwich.

And speaking of ad aversions, I won’t go near Burger King because I’m afraid of that leering Burger King! I think that ad where he is peeking in the kitchen window, and also the ad where he is in bed with that man, are two of the most nightmarish ads ever done!
 
this is wrong in so many ways. Granted, a child may not get the inuendos, but that doesn’t make it right. I am reminded of why I stopped watching TV. BUT I am glad that the thread starter alerted me to this.
