Thanks, Verbum. That’s pretty close to the quote I’m looking for, but not quite (unless, perhaps, you extend the “nobody wants to die” to “nobody wants to die to themselves in this life.”) .I think Woody Allen said something similar to Petula’s lyric when he said, “I don’t care about dying; I just don’t want to be there when it happens.”

Mark Twain also had an arguable but still funny heaven quote (as he did about most everything): “Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.”

Anyway, I’m still looking for who might have originally said the first quote. Thanks again.
