Well I love]quotes, particularly (sp?) saint quotes, and I’d like to post some on myspace, discuss them in blogs or something. I’m fairly certain it’s not a breach of copyright law, but then I read things like ‘no part of this book may be reproduced or transmitted in any way…’ and such.

So I was wondering if it would be ok:shrug:

I’m pretty sure I know what the answer is, but I just thought I’d ask.:o

I think they would be Fair Use, as no money is being made off the quotes. They are in the public domain and those made after Copyright law was enacted would probably not be prosecuted. Any made before Copyright law (early 1900s or so) are in the Public Domain.

The concept of “fair use” covers short excerpts taken from a publication for purposes of discussion, etc.

Also, last I checked, 1929 was currently the “magic date” as far as the copyright on the original statement. If it is a quotation that is probably available from a non-copyright source, then you are on even firmer ground.

I wouldn’t worry about it, as long as you quote the source.

Wadda they going to do, sue you? 😃 Besides, you’re giving them some press.
