Do you have a short quote to share from a saint, now that we have begun the season of Lent?

How admirable and adorable are the ways by which God leads his own. ~ St. Vincent de Paul

Oh, what great reason people of good will have to be cheerful. ~ St. Vincent de Paul

“To live without faith, without a heritage to defend, without battling constantly for truth, is not to live but to ‘get along’; we must never just ‘get along.’” ~ Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati

The countryside is so vast! There are people by the thousands filling up hell. All the ecclesiastics, with all the religious, would not suffice to remedy this misfortune. ~ St. Vincent de Paul

Act of Reparation
by St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
O kind and merciful Savior, from my heart I earnestly desire to return Thee love for love. My
greatest sorrow is that Thou art not loved by men, and, in particular, that my own heart is so cold,
so selfish, so ungrateful. Keenly aware of my own weakness and poverty, I trust that Thy own
grace will enable me to offer Thee an act of pure love. And I wish to offer Thee this act of love in
reparation for the coldness and neglect that are shown to Thee in the sacrament of Thy love by
Thy creatures. O Jesus, my supreme good, I love Thee, not for the sake of the reward which
Thou hast promised to those who love Thee, but purely for Thyself. I love Thee above all things
that can be loved, above all pleasures, and above myself and all that is not Thee, promising in the
presence of heaven and earth that I will live and die purely and simply in Thy holy love, and that
if to love Thee thus I must endure persecution and suffering I am completely satisfied, and I will
ever say with Saint Paul: Nothing “will be able to separate us from the love of God.” O Jesus,
supreme master of all hearts, I love Thee, I adore Thee, I praise Thee, I thank Thee, because I am
now all Thine own. Rule over me, and transform my soul into the likeness of Thyself, so that it
may bless and glorify Thee forever in the abode of the saints.

I’m not sure anyone does. It’s best to go straight to God when you have interior suffering because anything else, anybody else, is not going to give you consolation, most likely.

Honor the prudence, foresight, meekness, and the exactitude of Our Lord. ~ St. Vincent de Paul

Let us strive to rid ourselves of this miserable sensuality which makes us prisoners of its whims. ~ St. Vincent de Paul

In my life I want to become better and do a little good. ~ Bl. Frédéric Ozanam

“Although we may be able to do but little, the enemy nevertheless stands more in awe of those whom he knows can fast.”

-St. Francis de Sales

“Fasting cleanses the soul, raises the mind, subjects one’s flesh to the spirit, renders the heart contrite and humble, scatters the clouds of concupiscence, quenches the fire of lust, kindles the true light of chastity.”

-St. Thomas Aquinas

“Let the mouth fast from disgraceful and abusive words, because, what gain is there when, on the one hand we avoid eating chicken and fish and, on the other, we chew-up and consume our brothers? He who condemns and blasphemes is as if he has eaten brotherly meat, as if he has bitten into the flesh of his fellow man. It is because of this that Paul frightened us, saying: “If you chew up and consume one another be careful that you do not annihilate yourselves.”

-St. John Chrysostom

“If you wish to go to extremes, let it be in sweetness, patience, humility, and charity.”
-St. Philip Neri-

“Remember that the Christian life is one of action; not one of speech and daydreams. Let there be few words and many deeds. And let them be done well.”
-St. Vincent Pallotti-

“No act of virtue can be large if it does not also benefit another…Therefore, no matter how you spend your day fasting, no matter how you may sleep on a hard floor, and how you may eat ashes and sigh continuously, if you do not do good to others, you do not accomplish anything great.”
-St. John Chrysostom-

It is well to take notice of the more ardent affections that agitate your heart so that you can do your best to regulate them by the standard of the holy and ever-adorable Will of God. ~ St. Vincent de Paul

May Our Lord be in our hearts and our hearts in His. ~ St. Vincent de Paul

Jesus is with me. I have nothing to fear. ~ Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati
