Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say “This is from God,” to traffic with it for miserable price! Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby – Surah 2:79

Muslims use this surah as their basis to prove the bible has been fabricated. Here are a few points to consider:
- Yusuf Ali comments the immediate application of this is applied to the Jews living in Medina. If that is the case then it is only that party of Jews that have fabricated the scripture which has nothing to do with the other Jews living in other regions. This minor party cannot possibly fabricate ALL the scriptures that were in circulation. We have the manuscripts of the Old Testament predating the Jews in Medina that are in harmony with the Old Testament today.
- Reading this verse in context it has nothing to do with the Christians and the New Testament. I can accept the fact the curse is upon anyone who changes the scripture universally speaking, but the charge in this surah is against the Jews not Christians. Using this verse as a charge against the Christians and the New Testament is not objective does not follow through.
