It’s also a matter of social justice. Those who produce these materials need the profit to allow them to produce more materials. Think of the irony - teaching people about being Catholic using stolen materials…

If reproduction permission is given in the materials, read the info carefully to see what and how much you actually can copy. Church music licenses, for example, rarely if ever allow copies for the choir, just for the congregation.

No worries… the book is explicit about what is allowed and we are well within the guidelines.

All the handouts are on CD so making copies is necessary. I think it is a good way to go. I don’t particularly like the participant book though. I as coordinator find it confusing. Even the catechist book is not great, but the CD;s handouts are excellent.

I like the catechist book. The background reading and lesson outlines are great. What do you not like about it?

So the RCIA community is catching up with technology! Great! In the music side of church business, the vendors are realizing that it’s less expensive and inventory intensive to sell me a PDF rather than printing and storing the music to ship to me. Glad to see this is happening in the RCIA side of things!

I was asking because so many choirs have illegally copied music, and are paying hefty fines. So sad, but so avoidable.

If you read the handouts and are prepared to discuss them I wouldn’t worry about sticking too closely to the other materials. Ultimately the teacher is the teacher, not the textbook.

I do find I can do a better job on my own than using the catechist book. I have it but I never use it.

Me, too. This year the kids won’t even receive textbooks or workbooks. And I don’t know about RCIA, but Sunday School has about 30 meetings, but uses 180-day school-year textbooks. It’s a huge compromise from the start.
 
I am glad that I had private instruction with a priest who was very conservative and orthodox in his thinking. He taught me straight from scripture and the Catechism and we covered every chapter in the catechism and all the scripture that was needed to understand the catechism and yes we covered mortal sin and hell.
