R rated Horror movies

The violence is not real. I can’t remember profanity.

Imdb parent’s guide says otherwise. It says the F word is used multiple times as well as the s word. And God’s name used as profanity.

I would rethink this fascination with these movies.

I once watched the movie child’s play…it gave me nightmares.

I pick movies my nieces and nephews could watch. I never watch horror films for this very reason.

It’s been years since I’ve watch the saw movies. After the first time the suspense goes away. What is the imdb parent’s guide. It’s R rated only over 17 admitted. I wouldn’t want a child seeing it. I have dreams and bad dreams all the time. Meds probably.

I am going to ask this cause I care. I think I will know the answer. Since becoming Catholic which has been several years I have not seen any suspense movies. I am not a fan of Hollywood or the people there. I watch basically educational TV. NO sitcoms. I don’t have respect for the people of Hollywood either. But I have seen all the Saw Horror movies and loved them. The nudity I could take or leave. But the suspense of not knowing what was coming up next and gore, to me is indeed a thriller. Now am I not allowed to see Saw anymore if a new one comes out? This has been all prior to becoming Catholic.

The only types of movies that Catholics may not watch are pornographic movies. They may watch all others although the weak in faith may want to avoid other types of movies as well.

I think the answer really depends on who you ask. Some more traditional moral theologians would discourage watching such movies on some extremely complicated grounds. Others might take a different stance.

For me the bottom line is this: without being laxist or rigorist, we should really try to discern how important entertainment is in our lives, and how God-centered our free time happens to be. Likewise, we should try to understand that God isn’t sitting on His throne waiting to condemn us. Rather, we should do the things we do out of love for Him, and not simply because of gnawing fear.
