Of course it’s not unitive and procreative, but it doesn’t have to be either. It’s not a sexual act.

As long as this is something done chastely by the husband and wife, it is morally permissible.
It is used in a sexual way. Otherwise why take racy pictures?

If it’s not a sexual act then I guess it would be OK for unmarried people to perform?

I guess I don’t get the question…

What would be the purpose in taking a picture, a printed image, if one is not intending to keep that image? What could the point possibly be?🤷 I mean are we talking something like…take a pic with a digital camera then immediately delete it? What is the sense in that?

I think honestly, that if someone is going to take a picture, it’s because they want to capture a moment, or an image, and keep that image. If a man is asking a woman to take such pictures under the guise of ‘oh I’m not going to look at these again ever’ well, I think that is a bit naive
Well, I reread the OP and I see that it doesn’t say that it is a digital camera, but I got that impression from the post overall. And while you or I may not see the sense in it, the question asked was
what would the Church’s and all of your opinions be on a husband and wife engaging in a little “racy” but tame photography for their own private and temporary use. I’m not talking hardcore… What I mean is, maybe a kind of a playful playing around with a camera, not keeping images or videos for any later time or use… Just in the moment.
So, the question is whether taking such pictures is wrong with the understanding that they will NOT be kept and NOT viewed later.

Yes, it would be used in a sexual way. Like wearing lingerie. Wearing lingerie is neither unitive or procreative either…it’s clothing and cannot possess such attributes.

No. There are many non-sexual acts that married people can do that unmarried people may not. And when I used the word “sexual act” before it was pertaining to sexual intercourse which must be primarily procreative and secondarily unitive.

I’ve added a comment on that thread as well. I don’t equate the two. When I read the CCC 2362…

**2362 **“The acts in marriage by which the intimate and chaste union of the spouses takes place are noble and honorable; the truly human performance of these acts fosters the self-giving they signify and enriches the spouses in joy and gratitude.”

…I cannot envision a camera in the picture above.

Even a new bride will often come to the marriage bed wearing something pretty. I see no reason for that not to continue throughout the marriage.

I’m not sure what you mean. Can you offer some examples?

Not sure if this has been addressed before, but what would the Church’s and all of your opinions be on a husband and wife engaging in a little “racy” but tame photography for their own private and temporary use. I’m not talking hardcore…
I don’t see a problem with it if the photos were “tame” enough that you wouldn’t be embarrassed if they wound up on someone’s MySpace page. Anything more “racy” than that might become an occasion of lust, which even married people can fall into if they objectify each other. Proceed with caution, and God bless.

CarrieH, who never posed topless for anyone besides the mammogram tech!

Living in the same house
Sharing a bed
Getting dressed and undressed in front of each other
Seeing each other naked
Showering together
Wearing “sexy” clothing

…you get the picture. There are many acts that are not sexual acts that are appropriate for married couples and inappropriate for unmarried couples.

Exactly. So what in the heck is the point of taking the picture to begin with???

Are you going to take it, have it printed or developed, and then walk straight to the trashcan with it?

It doesn’t make sense. It sounds more like a bad ploy than anything.

I’ll be a purple anteater if these things aren’t all sexual in nature. That is why they are inappropriate for unmarried couples.

I think there is an incomplete knowledge of sexuality that is at the root of ALL of these threads…(the SI one, the lingerie one etc). Frankly as Catholics, we have a responsibility to want to know better and do better than subscribe to societies base philosophies.

A lot of what I see in these threads can be blamed on the Ladies and their insecurities. A shame.

Married people are supposed to enjoy each other. However, be careful, as there are people in this world who would use such material against you - especially the evil one who is always looking for a way to compromise your relationship with God. Peace be with you!

I think the one poster hit the nail on the head in saying that these types of questions stem from an acceptance of society’s philosophies of marriage and sexuality. When you get into subjects such as this it can be difficult to detect the line in the grey areas. It can be a slippery slope. And since we are called to avoid occasions of sin, I think this would be one of those occasions to avoid.
