Radio host Michael Medved says he has cancer

Popular conservative radio host Micahel Medved has stage three throat cancer, and is taking a leave of absence while undergoing treatment.

Medved told his listeners on the air and in a letter on Friday afternoon.

“I always knew that it would take something serious to keep me away from the microphone I cherish for an extended period of time,” Medved wrote. “As it turns out, I am facing something serious. It’s called cancer.”

He said he was diagnosed in the middle of December and began treatment immediately.

“My prognosis for full recovery is very good; in the great majority of cases, this is a highly curable form of cancer,” he wrote. “In fact, given my fierce desire to keep doing the show I managed to broadcast every day while completing more than half of my daily radiation and weekly chemotherapy treatments.”

Medved said he’d like to keep broadcasting, “but my voice – the most essential tool in radio – won’t cooperate.”

So, I will keep Michael and his family in my prayers. Hopefully, it sounds like he could be back by the end of February.

Oh yeah the working poor and insurance. If you qualify for a subsidy you can in fact afford health insurance but now you have pay a $5000.00 yearly deductible as well as monthly premiums.

If on the other hand you do not qualify for a subsidy you now have to pay for insurance and your deductible is $5000.00 per year.

Before my sister HAD to buy insurance she could go to the doctor and pay for the office visit. Now she pays a monthly premium (she qualified for a subsidy) and still pays at the doctor because her deductible is $5000.00 per year.

Like most government programs someone is getting rich on this and it ain’t me or mine.

That is a ridiculous claim and quite uncharitanble. I listen to Michael Medved regularly and he’s certainly never said anything about "preventing the working poor from health insurance.’ Where did you come up with such a specious and frankly uncharitable theory that Mr Medved’s cancer is “retribution” or serves him right?

BTW health CARE saves lives, not insurance. I see you are from Oregon and perhaps unaware of a MASSIVE study indicating those without insurance received the same quality of care as those who were under a government insurance plan such as Obamacare or Medicaid. Please speak the truth on this subject and regarding Mr Medved who is a devout Jew and as such an advocate for compassion and care of all human beings.

I heard Michael’s announcement yesterday and it took a while to sink in, although I clearly noticed his voice was quite hoarse and the broadcast was difficult. However one of the most touching comments he made was that in his diagnosis, his family had come from afar to support him and his wife Diane and their children. He said he was a man who had received tremendous blessings from God. I join you in praying for healing and health for Michael and all who face cancer or other life changing medical problems.
