I have only seen it twice. I wasn’t sure if it was some obscure custom, something new with RM III, or just something the individual priest decided to impart. It too makes me uncomfortable, but if it was a legitimate function of liturgy I shouldn’t feel uncomfortable about it. Haven’t been able to find anything in any rubrics pertaining to it.
