Ramadan is a month of Islamic fasting.

But what exactly does it mean? How do muslims fast?

As per the Christians teaching, We have this in our Holy Bible

MATHEW 6
16 'When you are fasting, do not put on a gloomy look as the hypocrites do: they go about looking unsightly to let people know they are fasting. In truth I tell you, they have had their reward.
17 But when you fast, put scent on your head and wash your face,
18 so that no one will know you are fasting except your Father who sees all that is done in secret; and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you.

As I am in a muslim country, i find that during Ramadan, everything changes, day becomes night where by working timings change, Muslims work less hours, Although they dont eat the entire day, they have no stoppage of eating at night upto early morning 4.00. The supermarkets do brisk business in food items,

So what is the Islamic teaching in fasting?

I read the article but no where did I come acroos the information leading to speical privilages to muslims on the earth ie less working hours etc.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven. Whoever prays during the nights in Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven. And he who passes Lailat al-Qadr in prayer with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven (Bukhari, Muslim).

Also from the above, marked in blue, article from the same you sent, its mentioned three times that all past sins will be forgiven. So does it mean if a person does not fast but does the other part ie prayers during nights, will all his sins be forgiven? or vice versa? or one has to do all three to be forgiven of all his past sins?

Also as to what I heard, the sin of not attending friday prayers is never forgiven, but the above says all his past sins will be forgiven. Does it mean a person who avoids friday prayers quite regularly, has no fear if he does all the above three to be forgiven completely?

Sam can attest to that. Believe it or not, most Muslims gain weigh during the month of Ramadan. Many years ago, I posted a picture on CAF that I secretly took during Ramadan in Saudi Arabia. You would think Muslims would stay home and pray, right? No, they were out eating, shopping, or whatever into the crack of dawn. Dubai is known for that. They throw big feast every night.

I enjoyed my days in Saudi Arabia during Ramadan. I enjoyed the festivity just like the Muslims. Foods were awesome. However, don’t expect to any work done during Ramadan. Most of them feel tired and lethargic because of too sugar intake or hyperglycemia.

Man… oh man… I want to jump on that buffet table…!!!

And that must be some lamp on his cutting up, I can see the shaved meat, & tomatoes and the yogurt sauce… it’s like one of those gyros they serve here in NY…
