I cannot see Ramadan fasting as “fasting”. It’s more like feasting. Fasting in the Catholic Church means having only one full meal a day and two other small meatless meals that together don’t equal a full meal. We’re allowed liquids; they don’t break the fast. Muslims starve themselves during the day and then gorge themselves at night. They gain weight as we’ve already seen. How can real fasting make someone gain weight? What’s the sense of that and how does that bring solidarity with the poor as Muslims claim?
