My Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Seeing as this is the month of Ramadan, I wished to ask of you the different requirements for the fast. Also above this I wished to have some testimonials on how Ramadan helps your spiritual lives.

Shookron!

I don`t know why there is no response from Muslims.

During Ramadan in Saudi Arabia, people are working only 6 hours instead of 8 hours some offices(my office also) are working only 4 hours and most of the shops and offices closed up to 12 noon. Even non Muslims also not allowed to drink or eat out side. But in the night time it looks like a festival and my boss always says me that really we are having more variety of foods in the fasting month of Ramadan.

Believe it or not, Saudis gain weight during the month of Ramadan. They spend all night eating and drinking. At first, I thought you were supposed to loose weight during Ramadan. During the day time, most of the Saudis are pretty lethargic. It is hard to get anything done during this month.

Riyadh @ 2:33 am In Ramadan

Streets of Riyadh at 2:33 am on a Friday night (the equivalent of a Sunday in the rest of the world). Isn’t it cool that the streets aren’t even close to clearing up at such an ungodly hour? I don’t think I’d be able to describe to you just how jam-packed the malls are at this time, as well. All I can say is: Gotta love Ramadhan.

f.y.i., we are currently in the last 10 days of ramadaan - a period in which night prayers are held during the last 3rd of the night and last until the break of dawn. has it ever crossed your mind that perhaps some these people were either on the way to or on their way back from these prayers? :ehh:

and btw, the last 3rd of the night is far from an “ungodly hour” in islamic belief. it is the time when Allah descends to the lowest heaven and answers the supplications of His righteous slaves.

as for the original question, the requirements of fasting the month of ramadan is to abstain from food and drink from the break of dawn until the setting of the sun. one is also required to abstain from intercourse with one’s spouse, as well as vain and abusive speech. this is the jist of it… if you want more detailled info, i’m sure if you do a google search on fasting ramadan, you’ll find a slew of articles that may have answers to your questions.

**selvaraj is right! I went out last night, the streets of Riyadh were packed with cars. I can assure you that the Saudis were not coming back from night pray. They were heading out for leisure or fun. Most businesses close during the day time. After working hours, most Saudis go home and sleep. After the last pray, that is when the Saudis start to go out. Night activity won’t end until 2 A.M. **

**After Ramadan, I’ll be going to Bahrain. I will have a buck wild Eid celebration there. 🙂 **
