Simple answer for now: Jerome’s translation of Judith is, like Tobit, made from an Aramaic version that is different from the Greek version which is commonly used in modern translations. Like Tobit, Greek Judith exists in a few textual versions.

I’ll look forward to any more detailed info you can give in the future. Especially if you have textual samples from the different Greek sources of Judith 8 and/or Aramaic/Hebrew versions. Especially if you have any version of Judith that was among the Dead Sea Scrolls. (Did they even have Judith in that community?)

No, unfortunately they didn’t. All in all, only two (or possibly three) of the seven deuterocanonical books were found in Qumran: fragments of manuscripts of Tobit in Hebrew and Aramaic (I already have a thread on that one), Sirach, and a very tiny fragment of the Epistle of Jeremiah (also counted as a part of Baruch) in Greek. Sirach was already known via copies dating from the Middle Ages found in Cairo before the DSS were even discovered anyway: all the Qumran finds - which substantially agree with these copies - attest to is that the Cairo manuscripts were not medieval retranslations into Hebrew, as was often the case.
