Does anyone else think that Zombies could be an image of God?
And by watching them get slaughtered in many different forms
we are dehumanizing ourselves subcutaneously?

Crazy idea, but I thought I’d share.

I thought zombies represented evil, darkness.

You know there aren’t any zombies, right???🙂

That said;

Zombies are fictionally dead beings who can move, a prerogative reserved to those alive. As such, they represent the power of death.

God is life. How you can equate that to a shambling corpse that burns easy kinda feels a little too out there for my tastes. 🤷

Now if you’re asking what God would be like if He dressed Himself up as a God of Zombies for Halloween, now that would be something. 😛

Not necessarily. Being dead isn’t exactly the same as being evil. 🙂

the dead are dead they can never come back to life in this world just think about it logically. the dead have died of cancer, old age heart disease, etc, etc

the whole thought of it is one of satan’s weaker weapons to make mankind afraid and to live in fear

It is an evil to be dead, but the victim of death does not become evil.

Still, death wandering around seeking new victims is, in a sense, a form of evil.

the dead are full of embalming fluid or are rotting & falling apart back into the dust from which they were created

satan would be hard-pressed to mobilze human dead bodies into a viable “zombie” army

Am I being too uptight here? … But the Jews will not even mention the name of YHWH much less make a joke concerning Him.

Seems in poor taste to me. But that’s just my view.

Not sure how that theology really applies to a world when you can still be in your body in spite of said body no longer functioning.

That’s what I mean by being dead but not necessarily evil. Anyone who’s watched Corpse Bride could easily figure out that much.

Besides, there’s no rule that says you have to make a victim just because some non-biological/supernatural force (like your soul) now moves an otherwise degenerating body. I have never seen a logical connection between the two. 🤷

A skeleton that doesn’t bite or wave around a sword is practically harmless, let alone evil!

My understanding of zombies is that they are not skeletons but decomposing bodies, seeking the blood of the living to maintain their animation.

The seeking of the dead for new victims is the root of the evil.

Otherwise, anybody who is dead is a victim. (Excepting One man who died in AD33, who came out of it :):))

so are we talking about “zombies” which is a hollywood creation of an actual re-animated dedeased human body or

about evil souls, ghosts or spirits/ there is quite the difference OP asked specifically about “zombies”

Agreed but still, it really depends on how a world with zombies actually treats the state of death.

In a fantasy-horror setting for example, I could be an alchemist who immortalizes himself via lich-style phylacteries. No killing. No blood. Just the simple transfer of spirit into some sort of vessel via magitek means. The body however is still not spared the biological decay that is simply the nature of things. My organs collapse, my skin crumbles through the ages, and only my limbs move through the sheer power of my soulstone.

By technicality, I am ‘dead.’ However, what is death then but simply the organic state of which a body has ceased function and is now merely decomposing? 🤷

the dead are “dead” they can never revisit their lives in the physical earth again

i guess i interrupted a forum elder fantasy fiction conference

sometimes, but not all that often, i see the zombies are meant to represent the evils of consumerism and capitalism. but i personally find that, if that is the intent, it’s a shallow allegory

If only people were as interested about their faith as they are about a fictional zombie… I guess we really are The Walking Dead…

I guess since the zombie was human, slightly remains looking human than it may be immoral
For me to watch it be killed.

It is fake I know, but I’m always wary of Satans subcutaneous dehumanizing traps.

War movies, slashers, violent video games, pornography, ect.

I guess since it’s fake one could reduce to the zombie to an animal. That wouldn’t be so bad.

Or zombies are humans with a certain disease that makes them only crave the most basic things, like food. Ive heard a geneticist once say there is only a very small ‘thread’ holding people in a civil manner versus being just killing/ eating machines who care about nothing else.

He claimed it would not be that difficult for someone to engineer a virus that would turn people into a ‘zombie’, not that they would actually be the dead returned to life, could not be killed type of zombie, but they would be vicious killers, who would attack and eat other humans on sight.

Um, this is the Popular Media section. I’m not even a Walking Dead fan but if CAF wants to encourage the integration of religion with that neat little aspect of human society then I’m afraid you guys are kinda falling short on that objective.

Um?

Well perhaps you misunderstood me. I think that it is silly to equate say, zombies, with a christian perspective. It is most certainly not the focus of the genre.

I am a HUGE fan of TWD and most zombie movies. But the zombie phenomenon is a Hollywood favorite because it is a non political way to propose a crisis.

The zombie resurgence in popularity can indeed be used as a moral tale. But not really in the sense that the OP suggested. A zombie apocalypse allows us to contemplate and think about how we would act in a complete societal breakdown. Terrorist threats, future wars and robots aliens and such are also popular vehicles to achieve both “survival” mentality and a discussion of morality in extreme circumstances. I think also the zombie vehicle incorporates a different and advanced theory of what constitutes human life. It certainly could play into the idea of euthanasia and quality of life issues. There is also the shock value of killing something that looks or even is human. So there is value in the genre. But there are those who take it too far. Some even think there could be zombies and in the sates a few years ago there was some “bath salt” O.D.s that prompted zombie alters even from some government funded orgainzations. As with most things media oriented there are quite a few that take the suspended belief of the idea to an extreme. And those are the ones who I am referring to. Those who are so involved with a show or idea that they function as if it were a real life part of their own lives and also there can be a little of “Jesus appeared on my toast” mentality which I think the OP may have hit upon.

Well it’s just that your post came off in the same condescending stripe as those who think people who discuss pop culture references are somehow less inclined towards faith.

Quite frankly, this sort of trend has done more to crack a faith than anything popular media could ever throw at the Church. I’ve long admitted that the question of the OP is a little out there but I don’t see why people shouldn’t try to have a discussion. 🤷

Well you could’ve said this rather than use the same words used by a lot of preachy grade school teachers I had to grow up in a Catholic school. 🤷
