Any attempt would have to evaluated by the local bishop. The Church is clear that only sacred music and sacrament instruments may be used for divine worship. The Church determines what constitutes sacred in this context… but She does distinguish between sacred music and profane music.

Come on now, don’t insult us boomers! 😊 I think the majority of boomers that are Catholic are probably more traditional than not. Those that aren’t, have gone off to start their own churches.

i know a church in my area that was founded in 1983 and has never left the 60s… 😦 😦

To be fair, Tyler Perry took a bunch of modern songs and made a Passion play with it.
But in the Mass?
Erm…Imma get back to you on that…

I like the idea of incorporating Catholic, moral,or deep themes in rap or any other type of music.
Not in mass though;)

Because that would be absolutely sacrilegious… Even just thinking about that makes me want to puke.

I pity the fool who think the Mass and rap mix. Rap ain’t nothin’ but the art of talkin’ sh…

Even the thought of a “folk Mass” rubs me the wrong way. Rap is a whole other animal, and not a better one.

All the happy-clappy-imitation-hippy music is written to be sung by a group.

Rap is absolutely a solo act with some background singers. I guess Father could rap while the choir backs him up with some chant or something.

Hip-hop might provide more opportunity for congregational singing, but it’s still definitely more geared toward soloists with back-up.

So unless you’re talking about a modern version of a concert-style mass (i.e., people go sit in a theater and listen to professional musicians perform the composition), this ain’t going nowhere.

As a side note, I have never understood why a bunch of middle-aged (and older) people think today’s young people wanna hear the old folks’ favorite hippy tunes at mass. “Oh we can’t sing in Latin, the kids will lose interest.”

I don’t know enough about rap and hip hop to guess on this.

However, Polka masses have been composed, so an attempt certainly could be made

Rap–maybe.
Hip-hop . . . .could lead to dancing. Which is a sin.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Never heard of this guy before.

He’s fantastic! I’m going to show my kids.

I mean, we could stick to stodgy stuffy solemn dirges evoking little more than yawns (because slow, plodding, and solemn = sacred) or we could actually try to communicate with people who exist in the real world. We could hope the Church shrinks smaller and smaller or we could cast our nets and become fishers of men.

Either way is fine with me. I’m stickin’ around for the (my) duration.

Max75: POD is a band that plays some heavy sounds and is Christian. In one of their songs: “Youth of the Nation” the vocals sound a little like he’s rapping. To me it’s too heavy of a sound. In other places it would be cool but our Churches are very old school.

I was joking hahaha I’m as all for dancing as the next guy. As long as the next guy isin’t a pilgrim.
