To FIX (post #15) - your belief that “contraception is intrinsically evil” and “always wrong” does not alter the facts.
The Vatican did distribute contraceptives to nuns in the Congo.
Vatican official Monsignor Ello Sgreccia did call it a “legitimate defense” against rape.

These are facts.
They shift the question from a simple black & white answer into the shades of grey.

Go with Love, Go with God!
This is one of those anti-Church myths that just refuses to go away. No the Church NEVER distibuted or approved contraceptives for Nuns in the Congo(or Uganda, or Somalia or any other nunmber of African countries depending on who is telling the story).

**It may fall under legitimate defense.

Contraception & Extra-Marital Sex
That was my original point. It is not a contracpetive act if a woman is defending herself.

The issue about nonmarital consentual sexual relations and contraception seems to be another matter. However, if I read the link correctly he is stating Rome has been silent on the issue. I have read other things that make the case the Church teahes it is not only the sin of fornication, but also contraception if the couple engage in contraceptive intercourse.
