The other thread reminded me of this question.

The Rapex Condom was developed I believe by a woman in South Africa. Rape is obviously a problem there. The rapex condom is something the woman wears to prevent rape. If she is forced upon, the plastic teeth inside the condom can only be surgically removed. Is this wrong to wear this in order to protect yourself in the case of rape?
 
Why should it be wrong. The rapist does not partake in the mutual ownership of each other’s body as given in marriage. He is taking something that he has no right to. Once fertilization takes place and the ovum implants one is not allowed to abort the baby. Prevention of fertilization by someone who has no right is allowed. As a male, just the thought of this condom makes me shudder.
 
Also she is practicing self defense and with AIDS an epidemic she would be also be protecting her life and by being alive protecting any children she may already have from dying from neglect. It is horrible and pathetic that a woman should have to live this way. Someday justice will be meted out and not by a some state judge who considers himself a crusader and a philospher and wiser than all previous civilizations but by Christ The King. Dan
 
I love the idea of this item… I haven’t heard of this before… I’m sure it won’t take this happening to too many men before the number of rapes declines drastically… HAHAHAHAHA
 
Hey that’s pretty unique…but shouldn’t it be called a diaphragm?
 
As a form of contraception, I am tempted to denounce it as immoral, however after thinking it over, it would probably stop intercourse from taking place- I cannot imagine a man continuing the rape with these plastic teeth imbedded in his genitalia. Ouch.

I don’t know - knowing that rape is a crime of violent assault, of asserting power over another, not just seeking sex, do you think it is possible that the rapist, in pain and rage might be more inclined to bash the woman severely or even kill her?
 
A valid question, Linda.
I guess the individual would have to weigh the pros and cons of its use. I believe it ought to be available to anyone who wants it.

Then, too, if this were popular, it wouldn’t take long, hearing of its use and aftereffects, that men would no doubt hesitate to attack a woman. Unless they checked for it first…grrrr…

Looked at the FAQ’s on the site and they said that there is danger of that all the time, however; this device causes pain worse than a kick in the groin. So he wouldn’t be thinking anything at that point except feeling pain.
 
No moral problem with its use. Contraception isn’t wrong because it is on some arbitrary list of forbidden things. It is wrong because it attempts to sever the link between the procreative and unitive natures of sexual intimacy between husband and wife. In the case of rape, there is no intimacy and no intent for it by either party. Thus, a barrier means of attempting to prevent conception is completely permissible.

I wonder though if the product would be a victim of its own success. If its use becomes prevalent, attackers will simply learn to check for it before proceeding. Word will get out fast!
 
This is no more immoral than a well placed kick. This is self defense, not contraception.

That is exactly what I thought - this would serve to further enrage a violent person.

Yes, and then the woman will be beaten and/or killed for wearing it. Also, if that device latches on and causes a break in the skin of the male member, it could actually increase a woman’s chance of contracting HIV or hepatitis. Blood to mucous-membrane exposure is a high risk situation for transmission of bloodborne diseases.
 
Sorry, please forgive me, but I see this device as fodder for an amusing mental picture. Don’t get me wrong, rape is serious and if this helps at some women out of such a situation, that’s great.

I guess it’s such a novel (or bizarre, depending on your point of view) device that I imagine the shock, surprise, not to mention the pain which the attacker would be subject.

I agree that it might be a nidus for a violent reaction from the rapist.

It appears as though it’s compleately covered with latex. Just like a regular condom, it would afford some protection against blood borne pathogens.

I don’t know how many rapists would think to check for one. In that initial moment of violence, he most likely won’t. 🤷 Violent men are going to attack no matter what. If he plans to kill, very little will change his mind. Why not up your chances of getting away while he’s writhing in pain on the floor?

I suppose that’s the $64,000 question - just how incapacitating is this? Testing was not done with live men, at least that was what I understood from their FAQ, so how do they know how painful it is?

When men are angry and attacking someone, they don’t seem to feel much pain and what they do feel just makes them angrier (generally speaking), even from a kick in the groin. If they are incapacitated for a few minutes, she has a chance to escape but she’d need at least that long to get her clothes pulled up so she can run, any locked doors opened etc. I’m slow, I can’t run worth beans, so I think I’d want him down for the count and not able to think of anything but getting to a doctor.

Maybe coat the teeth with super extra strength capsicum extract or make a small chamber to hold a drop of the extract at the junction of each tooth that only opens when the rapist tries to withdraw, releasing the capsicum down a small channel in the tooth right into the open wound. Since the condom remains attached to the rapist and is removed from the woman when he withdraws, she is protected from the capsicum as well as any other fluids. Now I think that might give you more than a couple minutes to get away.

Did I just sound horribly mean and vindictive or what?!? 😊
 
This device gives a woman another option of self-defense. It would be best if sold through a pharmacy like setting here in the U.S. (which maybe not be available in less economically developed locations) Where , in privacy a woman is told of the possible setbacks, side effects as it were, of it’s deployment onto a well deserving attacker. Understanding the risk of sending him into further rage and aggression and injuring her further informs her of the possible downside of its use. Kind of like keeping a loaded gun in your dresser but having a perpetratror get to it first.

Speaking as a man, the mere thought of this contraption doing it’s work, is staggering. I imagine the agony would immobilize me for quite a while. Having, in a profesional capacity, to have responded to the immediate scene of several sexual assaults, and witnessing their immediate aftermath, I hold the particularly unchristian opinion that while he is writhing in agony the victim would not only be well within her rights, but has a moral obligation, to perform a summary execution. There is plenty of room in hell for demons who do these horrible things. I hope my beliefs don’t land me there with them.

Sexual predators are recidivists of the highest order. They cannot be reformed. If he gets away, he will victimize again, and again. Probably more violently and brutally.They possess no redeeming social value, and exude a vanity and pride worthy of their lord, satan. If sent to their fate while this device is working it’s mojo, they may actually repent, as their last words will likely be to the effect of, Oh MY God. Sorry for the frank nature of this posting, but I am tired of seeing victims suffer, while watching evil men stalk their prey, free to breathe the air around them.

Isn’t it entirely possible, too, that one or two South African rapists might even be clever enough to remove the, er, device?

It sounds like a great idea to me, though my first reaction as a guy is – OUCH!!

Is it a charity or a private company making this? I see they are asking for donations.
Once this gets over here I can wonder about the FDA tests for “safe & effective”. And I wonder about the law – here in NY state it’s basically illegal to defend yourself so I’m wondering if the first woman who is saved from rape by this thing will be prosecuted for assault & battery.
