It mentions in this article that Lil Wayne “received last rites [sic]” when hospitalozed with very low-functioning heart after epileptic seizures… does this mean he is Catholic?
L’il Wayne was born and raised in New Orleans. Louisiana and New Orleans both have a very large percentage of Catholics and a large percentage of black Catholics. So, it would not surprise me to learn that he was baptized and raised in the Catholic Church.

We went to the same public high school (though I graduated a good 10-12 years before he attended the school). When I attended the school, it was putting graduates into Harvard. The school was a horror show by the time L’il Wayne got there.

Yes, he is a Catholic according to this source.

He also makes the sign of the cross when he appears in the music video for the remix of Scream and Shout with Will.I.AM, Diddy, Hitboy and Britney Spears.
Well, well, well! I hope he’s a good Catholic. I actually know nothing about rappers :o but now have something to say in conversation 🙂
On an unrelated note, check out this link for a list of celebrities who are also Catholic.

Some of those people surprised me! Thanks!

Not to sound mean, but I wouldn’t hold him up as an example of Catholic virtue. Some of his songs are very…inappropriate. 😦

That’s putting it mildly… Interesting information though. If anyone had told me that I would’ve thought they were making some sort of wisecrack.

It’s a shame more of his fans don’t know this. That would be one heck of a way to Evangelize the Youth. You really do learn something new every day.

I suppose we should say a prayer for him since, as I understand it, the good effects of Anointing of the Sick require a repentant heart. This is a substantial hurdle to overcome.

I respectfully disagree. The less people know it, the better. Lil Wayne is not the kind of person you want waving your flag. I can only assume those who are enthusiastic about this are very unfamiliar with his work. Do you really think having a guy whose ouevre includes such tasteful titles as “F— the World,” “F— You,” and “F— Wit Me Now”, not to mention his more well known Top 40 hits like, “Lollipop” (I don’t think I need to explain what that refers to) as a spokesman for Catholicism can be productive in any way? Consider this “artful” verse:
What you talkin’ ‘bout? Tell it to my nine (gun)
Cut your tongue out, mail it to your moms
I’m the young god, swagga un-flawed
B—h, I’m in the buildin’, you in the front yard
Life’s a b—h, nah, better yet a dumb broad
And I bet I can f— the world and make it c-- hard
Yeah, you boys is washed up
And I’m sh----n’ on 'em like two girls and one cup
In the space of 8 lines, we have violence, blasphemy, misogyny, lewd sexual remarks and references to coprophagic pornography. Very classy.

Sorry, but if anything Lil’ Wayne associating himself with the Catholic faith does little more than make a mockery of it. Trying to use Lil’ Wayne as a tool for bringing youth into the Church is like using heroin as an incentive to get drug addicts into rehab. It’s completely counterproductive, as the message he preaches is not only antithetical but hostile to Christianity. Heck, it’s hostile to basic human decency.

On a side note, I think it’s quite interesting to know that our President claims to listen to Lil’ Wayne and has made reference to him in several of his speeches. I think he just says that to appeal to the youth, but either way, it’s frightening to think that an American President would associate himself with someone so openly vile. This would have created a massive public outcry not that long ago.
