The Catholic teaching of the rapture is that it’s total bogus and was completely made up. I would recommend reading The Rapture Trap by Paul Thigpen. It basically sums up what the biblical proof of it’s nonexistence and made up ideals.

The rapture is based on alot of misinterpretations of the Bible and has become very popular with fictionalized books out on the market and has deceived many people.
The Catholic Church rejects this teaching.

I used to fall for that too, back when I was a fallen-away catholic in a baptist faith. The thought of being here during the anti-christ era-well-not sure how or when it is going to unfold-well-need to just keep our faith in God and pray for strength during these trying times.

Another thing to keep in mind, especially in regards to specific predictions about when “the Rapture” is supposeedly happening (e.g. this coming Saturday, according to Mr. Camping), is that Jesus said, in Mark 13:32, “But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” So, basically, if someone claims to know that the end of the world is happening on such and such a day and/or at such and such a time… it’s not. So, have a good time at Mass on Sunday!

…i guess i just don’t see the issue with Rapture. The moment you die your raptured right? Does it truly matter? When the end of the world comes, I hope we all meet together in the clouds prepared to journey home to heaven, don’t you?

The rapture is the ‘shall be take up’. It is revealed truth. Also revealed truth is the great tribulation, so is the last judgement
We did not get revelation of the details about the Last things, including the sequence. The probably sequence is : Great tribulation, Jews accept the historical Jesus as Messias, Christ second coming, Last judgement, rapture = taken up together with him. Other sequences are possible.

Rapture theology is based on several Bible passages which are intepreteted as individual passages outside of their biblical context and outside of the politicial and economic context under which the authors of Sacred Scripture and their intended audience operated.
***For the Lord himself, with a word of command, with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God, will come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thus we shall always be with the Lord. *(1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
This passage is often cited as proof text for the rapture but Paul was not speaking of a literal event where all true believers will be caught up to meet Jesus in the air. Paul was referencing the political and military custom wherby citizens would leave the security of their walled city to “Go out and meet” visiting generals, kings and dignitaries. They would do so unarmed as a gesture of subservience and then escort the dignitary into the city as an honored guest.
The assertion that true believers in Christ will be caught up to meet Jesus in the clouds and then brought with Jesus to Heaven for 1000 years before Christ returns again is completely at odds with scripture for to do so would mean that Christ would return to earth twice; once where he would stop part way above the earth, hang a U-turn and head back to heaven and a second coming at the end of time. Christ tells us that if we eat his flesh and drink his blood he will raise us on the last day, not the last day before the rapture! There are not two second comings of Christ, one at the rapture and one at the end of time but one return of Christ at the end of time. And Paul’s statement lines up perfectly with Revelation.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (Revelation 21:1-2)
Christ will come once and then we will escort him back to earth as a honored guest and he will transform the earth into the heavenly Jerusalem. Rapture theology is also based on the several passages where Christ speaks of one being taken and onother being left behind. Rapturists assert that true believers - the good guys - will be taken by Christ while the bad guys will be “Left behind.”
I tell you, on that night there will be two people in one bed; one will be taken, the other left. And there will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken, the other left. (Luke 17:34-25)
Rapture theologists use this passage outside of it’s context. These lines are part of a larger discourse about the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in 70 AD, not about the end of time. Besides ,Jesus prefaces his statement about being taken and being left behind several verses earlier by saying…
As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man; they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot: they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building; on the day when Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all. So it will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed. (Luke 17:26-30)
When the flood came in the times of Noah, the good guys - Noah and his family - were left behind while the bad guys were taken by the flood, exactly the opposite of what the rapturists say will happen! The same thing happend to Lot in Sodom. Lot was a good guy and he was left behind while the wicked Sodomites were taken by fire and brimstone.
So rapture theology is exacly 180 degrees out of phase with Scripture. Those who believe in the rapture have Scripture one hudred percent reversed from what it actually says.
And if a rapture does happen, it is the bad guys who will be taken away to Hell. I want to be one of the ones who are left behind, just like in the days of Noah and Lot, so that I can go out to meet Jesus, escort him to earth and then live in the Heavenly Jerusalem.

This is neat. I just had a question about this, this morning, and wondered what the Church’s view on all this is and BINGO, this pops up on my screen unexpectedly just a few hours later. Coincedence? I don’t think so. Usually my computer opens to my groups page, today “all by itself” it opened to this??? No accident.

This exegesis seems ti be arbitrary. The verb ἁρπαγησόμεθα is future passive indicative. It is hard to interpret as voluntary action of the caught up individuals. St Paul is clear that external force (God) makes it, it is not voluntary decision.
It seems to be better exegesis that it is part of the judgment. The chose ones are caught up to be with the Lord forever.

Question I have is May 21st where?
If it is May 21st here in the United States then the rapture will be happening on May 22nd for some people around the world.
That is one of the reasons why I think all these “calculations” do not work, as they do not take into account that dates do not work in such a way as it is the same date all around the world.
The biggest reason this does not work for me is the Holy Scriptures state that we will not know the date and time, nor even the season.
Acts 1:7 - He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority.”
