I believe that Cardinal’s Ratzinger’s homily can be found on the “Spirit Daily” website. I am praying for such an outcome, for the Cardinal to be selected by the Holy Spirit and appear before the faithful as Pope Pius XIII. The Cardinal’s homily hit the nail on the head, and it shows that he is fully aware that the next pope cannot be the least bit worried about being popular. His job will be to wrest the barque of Peter from the barnacles of relativism and secularism. The Cardinal knows that the “dictatorship of relativism” is buffeting the barque of Peter and that the next helmsmen must be single-minded in his guide it safely to shore If he does become the next pope, let us get ready to put on our battle gear because it’s going to get rough as the forces of liberalism seek to sink the barque. .

I came across this article over on the conclave forum. I’m not sure how many people here have ventured over there, but I thought it was appropriate to the way the discussion was headed:

**Progressives, Moderates, Neocons: Notes Before the Conclave
**On one side, Ratzinger, Ruini, Bergoglio, Scola with their proposal for a new “Papal Revolution.” On the other side, the list of their opponents, with Tettamanzi as the man for all seasons

I hope and pray that should the Holy Spirit lead the Conclave to elect another Cardinal that Ratzinger will be allowed to remain Prefect for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. 😃 Thanks and God Bless.

I think the terminology is crappy, but which “party” has the more appealing platform?

Neoconservative: Ratzinger, Ruini, Bergoglio, Scola

“a Church that is not folded in upon itself, not timid, not lacking in trust, a Church burning with the love of Christ for the salvation of all men,”
  1. resumption of the active management of the Church’s ordinary governance, its cleansing from “filthiness"
  2. a reinforcement of the doctrinal and moral formation of the clergy
  3. a renewal of basic evangelization and the teaching of the catechism
  4. a qualitative improvement in the celebration of the liturgy
  5. a new missionary campaign
Biggest threat to the Church: "The most fearsome conflict of the next decades will not be that between the Church and Islam, but rather the cultural conflict between the Church and “the radical emancipation of man from God and from the roots of life,” which characterizes contemporary Western culture and which “leads in the end to the destruction of freedom.” This demonstrates the need for a highly visible Church to act as a guiding social force at the center of the public arena.

Progressive, Camp 1: Maradiaga, Hummes

Contests the priority the neoconservatives give to the confrontation between the Church and secular culture over the vision of man and life and sees it as too exclusively Western
  1. The Church’s priority should be the commitment for justice, peace, and the protection of creation.
  2. “the priority of a servant Church must be solidarity with the poor.”
Progressive, Camp 2: Danneels, Mahoney, O’Brien, Hamao
  1. a more internally democratic Church
  2. a greater relationship of “sharing” with the culture and custom widespread in the West
  3. calls for new solutions on priestly celibacy, women’s roles, communion for divorced persons who have remarried
  4. more ecumenism
  5. prefers a more interior and discreet Christian life.

👍 I couldn’t agree more.

OF COURSE I PRAY THE HOLY SPIRIT GUIDES THE CARDINAL’S CHOCIE BUT I WOULD LOVE TO SEE CARDINAL RATZINGER AS OUR NEXT POPE AND SEE HIM TAKE PIUS XIII—LORD WILLING–

if ratzinger getS it–here is from a selfish point of view, what I would like to see him do doctrinally- 1. Infallibly define Baptism of Desire --thus shutting up all the Feeneyites–2. Empasize the normative need to for every single person to be converted to the Catholic faith and at the same time reemphasizing the catholic dogma of “OuTside the Church there is no Salvation.”–thus shutting up many people on this forum–3. An encyclical on scripture—reemphasizing the teaching that scripture is, once the sacred author’s intention is found, totally without error even on matters of history and science–liturgically–I would love to see him make certain Mass parts in latin like the Gloria, the kyrie (greek) Credo–Sanctus, Angnus dei–just to start–and I would also like to see him change some translations—make certain translations more faithful to the Latin-- AND GET RID OF COMMUNION IN THE HAND-AND TURN THE ALTARS BACK AROUND THESE THINGS WOULD BE A GOOD START–

I’m all for teaching everyone the true faith; no more religious ed teachers saying that you get to heaven based on how many good deeds you did. Or that purgatory is a punishment/ jail sentence.

You forgot a few:
  1. Get rid of private auricular confession and go back to public confession, just like the apostles did it. Also, we need to massively increase the penance for sins. 3 Hail Mary’s and one Lord’s Prayer for missing 3 consecutive Sunday Obligations is light. I say 20 hours of community service per offense is about right.
  2. Require head covers for women. Maybe we can start a Catholic Burqa business!!! Get rid of extrordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. No more women lectors, cantors, and alter girls. Women are supposed to be silent in church, darn it.
  3. Get rid of all vernacular copies of Scripture. We can have a massive book barbeque. The only authorized version of Scripture is the Vulgate.
  4. Bring back public declarations of Anathema.
  5. Heck, while we’re at it, re-establish the office of the Grand Inquisitor and commence a global inquisition. We haven’t had anyone burn at the stake for a few centuries.

Huh? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proofs. Please provide argumentation and references for this most extraordinary of claims.

Peace be with you Ani Ibi,

Our wonderful and cheerful Ahimsa was just being humorous.

Peace, Love and Blessings.

I am an Arinze supporter myself, but will submit myself to the authority of whomever the Holy Spirit guides the conclave to select.
ditto

Hugh Betcha:
Hey I have a question for you guys: Would you really want a pope that is 79? I saw in my fiancee the anguish and grief when JP2 was so sick and then died. Just wondering if you would want to go through that again so soon. Not saying that he’s on his last leg, but statistically, he can’t have much longer. Seems to me like the more often you have to elect a pope, the more unsettled things are? Keep in mind that I am a protestant (who’s getting ready to be a Catholic) so I may be talking somewhat out of school on this. Don’t take any offence to my constant questions.
No offense. The new pope just turned 78 two days ago on April 16. The reason why many people like him on here is because he will lead the Church in orthodox teaching.

Even if he is 78 he could live to be 100 years old! 🙂 At least!

God Bless Pope Benedict XVI!!

Sounds like a good start to me 🙂

Scott…you know you are going to get flamed by feminist for this post LOL :)…but you know what, I totally agree. Great ideas. And while we are at it,

A) I believe EVERY parish should have AT LEAST one Indult TLM offered every Sunday for the faithful who feel more attracted to the traditional liturgy.

B) Also, I would like to see them eliminate the orans position (mimicking the Priest) during the saying of the Our Father…we should have our hands clasped together in front of us in a prayerful position.

I agree, one of the truly orthodox Eastern Rite Patriarchs would have been great; may have even helped unite the Orthodox and us, but it is really not possible given today’s climate.
