Raymond Arroyo: Right Wing Demagogue?

Raymond Arroyo is Catholic. as a practicing Catholic …his view is well, Catholic.

Something I appreciate.

I don’t get it. I have one poster defending Raymond Arroyo because political slant is allowable on a news commentator show. Now you say he is objective. It can’t be both.

I am inclined to agree that he crosses the line of objectivity into his own political view points quite often, as do other such news commentary programs. Yes, he is orthodox, but I see him going beyond Catholic teaching, though not against it. In this instance, it is understandable that other orthodox Catholics would wish to avoid the program because of its political ideology.

So I can imagine someone from EWTN having a measure of distrust for the USCCB.

I had heard Mother Angelica had a tiff with a bishop, but I didn’t know this.

Love EWTN…has helped bring me back to the practice of our Faith.

I’ll take the straight talk I hear on Raymond Arroyo’s show instead of some of the wishy-washy publications coming out of the bishop’s conference. I’m thinking of the booklet
they publish come election time. If you had a problem listening to the CIA agent who
wrote a book about “torture”, then you didn’t listen carefully. He did not talk about
anything that went against church teaching. I, for one, heard much that I had not been
aware of.
I like the show and really miss it when I am out-of-town and can’t watch.
As far as who will be in charge of EWTN, it is currently being run by a board and no
one person, Mother Angelica is no longer in “charge” and has not been for a long
time at her request.

we do need to question some activities of the Bishop’s conference. And, yes it is the
conference that did not want Mother Angelica to have Catholic Channel. (One Bishop
who strongly opposed her was Cardinal Mahoney.)

Raymond is one of the good guys i rather listen to him than o’reilley and i like bill from time to time, am more of a glenn beck fan myself

It’s not to me about liking him, he’s perfectly likable and does have some interesting guests and things to say. I just don’t like that he seems to present a very one sided view on issues (like immigration etc.) that are super politically conservative, which isn’t necessarily an accurate representation of the Church’s view. The Church is above and beyond being put in liberal or conservative boxes.

Well put?!! Also, I appear to making a point?!! One thing that I am not ever accused of is being ambiguous. Raymond Arroyo is not a sancrosant entity within the Catholic media. Perhaps his political agenda does great harm to EWTN and Mother Angelica? As Mother’s health wanes, who moves in to feed off of the corpus she has built out of simple dignity? Ray Arroyo? I shall never forget the time my wife and I brought the girls to my late mother’s home to watch the ceremonies regarding the death of Pope John Paul II. The way that Ray and Father Richard John Neuhaus commented on that sacred moment led my mother to comment that those two sounded like a couple of, "effeminate drama critics, critiquing a performance of “Lady Windermwere’s Fan”. Is Ray Arroyo the heir apparent to the great Mother Angelica? I sure hope not.

dear unafraid - watch and see what happens next. I think Arroyo wants to get a job on Fox and that is why his show is becoming more and more politically rightist.
I can’t imagine Jesus condoning waterboarding, and I can’t imagine Mother Angelica condoning it, either. Would she have had a guest like that on her show? I don’t think so!
My advice to everyone is to pray for EWTN.

Firstly, let me state that I love Mother Angelica and EWTN. However, Raymond Arroyo and his program, “World Over Live”, has begun to disturb me. When I watch I sometimes have to blink and refocus my eyes to be sure I am not watching Rush Limbaugh. The right wing rhetoric is so pervasive that it might give a false view that ALL Roman Catholics are doctrinaire political conservatives. It is akin to the misperceived idea that our military is peopled solely by conservative Republicans, a sentiment urged on by the same sort of demagoguery. Raymond, if your listening, the Catholic financial contributors to EWTN are not all card-carrying members of the GOP. How about a little balance?

There is idological balance at EWTN. Have you looked into each of the other people’s ideologies on the other programs?

Raymond is talented, but not very objective. In his show with Judy Brown of American Life League and a woman (Sister?) from an association of Catholic hospitals it was Judy and Raymond against the latter. At one point he quoted something put out by the hospitals out of context so that the woman chastised him for not quoting the entire artical which showed the statement in a different light.

His scorn for the USCCB can not be disguised. If he wanted to be the authority he should have entered the priesthood. The comparison with Limbaugh is accurate.

One does not have to be a priest to be correct.
