I am sorry i buried this on another thread and want more people to read it. Maybe can fit in on this forum. Edgar Cayce may not be of interest to many on Catholic Answers but he turns out to be a surprising supporter, in trance, of RCC doctrine. He was known as “the sleeping seer” for 40+ years of very accurate Life and Health readings which involved him answering questions in trance. Anyway, just beginning a book of his readings about Christ (1961 pub., The Edgar Cayce Foundation, Jeffrey Furst selections). Cayce was in waking life a Protestant Fundamentalist, so several of the answers he received to questions posed while he was in trance probably surprised him when he woke up. I am only 20 pages into the book. So far,

(1) Q. “Is the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church correct, in that Mary was without original sin from the moment of her conception in the womb of Anne?” A. It would be correct in any case. Correct more in this. For as for the material teaching of that just referred to, you see, in the beginning, Mary was the twin soul of the Master in the entranced into the earth! (5749-8) emphasis Cayce’s.

(2) Q. “Then neither Mary nor Jesus had a human father?” A. Neither Mary nor Jesus had a human father. They were one soul so far as the earth is concerned. (5749-8) emphasis Cayce’s.

Cayce also confirms, in response to questions in trance, the role of Mt. Carmel in Mary’s pre-Conception history, and the history of the Roman Catholic Church. The local RCC in Virginia Beach, home of the A.R.E., is named for Mary, “Stella Maris” Star of the Sea. Coincidentally, that is also the name of the Carmelite Monestary on Mt. Carmel in Palestine.

These are both gross heresies which are even worse than the heresy that the BVM was a sinner.

This is not part of Catholic doctrine.

This man does NOT support Catholic doctrine. If he is purporting to give “Life and Health readings which involved him answering questions in trance” he is grossly disobedient to the Church and to the Bible and could very well be exposing himself and his gullible superstitious followers to diabolical influence. My advice is to immediately throw this book in the garbage.

Thank you for your reply - I will be returning it to the library - and more than likely won’t make it all the way through. Edgar Cayce was an unusual person with very unusual abilities, who lived and was active (asleep and awake) in the neighborhood of 100 years ago or so. To me, his answers seemed pretty straight forward, and unexpected, only - no more depth to my perceptions because I’m not Catholic. I’m on my way though 🙂 leaving behind a lot including this “kind” of thing. Conversion is a long process, especially when you’re coming from 15+ years in Hare Krishna … You are very fortunate to be Catholic.

Thank you, I know I am and that I don’t deserve it. Sorry if I sounded harsh, but this man’s ideas are just one of a thousand blind alleys by which people fall astray. Please pray for me as I will for you.

The Devil will tell you a thousand truths, just to slip in One Lie.

neither of these responses is in accord with Catholic doctrine, and in any case, like many of Cayce’s alleged locutions are so mystical and garbled as to be meaningless, I don’t see how they support thesis of OP.

Where do I start?

Whether or not the Cayce material turns out to be true, the RCC has made so many bizarre claims itself since the times of Clement to the present day as to behoove all of us to withhold judgement a bit. Church members holding tight to religious doctrine sometimes have no understanding of how it came about, what conditions were present at the time the doctrines were set in stone, and the social, economic, and political events that may have shaped it. Legalists exist in every religion, including ours. Keep your heart tuned into the Scriptures and investigate the history of some of our doctrines. I guarantee that you’ll be surprised. Relax a bit…follow the words of Christ and be careful about some of the Church’s manmade teachings. Save the “revealed Word” argument for summer school 3rd grade Bible students unable to read and think like an educated adult.

Fire away.

Mai Ping,

The teachings were not manmade; they were given to us by Christ Himself and through the authority He gave His one true Church.

If one truly follows the words of Christ, one finds that the Catholic Church is the only Church founded by Christ, and this Church is the only one with the fullness of truth, authority, and grace.

Roman Catholics should be faithful and obedient to the Church, and not wander off into plausibility and liberal thinking.

That whole “twin soul” and “entanced into the earth” - is new age jargon.
New Age movement is akin to and has its roots in Lucis Trust which has as its founding gurus: HP Blavatsky; AA Bailey and A Crowley.

Please return you Cayce book(s) to wherever you got them, they will darken your intellect and your soul.

If you are that interested in prophecy, see the prophecies of La Salette, Fátima, Garabandal or Medjugorje.

Buy the book “The Thunder of Justice”. That’ll be enough matierial to keep you busy for many years to come.

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

Garabandal and Medjugie are NOT approved by the Church.
