I found this link on wikipedia:

deseretnews.com/article/700032215/Catholic-Church-commends-PCC-in-honor-of-Napela.html

The Polynesian Cultural Center is a sort of, well, sneaky place to me. It plays at being a living museum when it’s just a money-making front for the church. But besides that, why would the RCC make such a gesture? One can argue that it is not the endorsement of the Mormon religion, but isn’t it legitimitizing it to honor one of its most famous proponents?

Here’s a working link: Catholic Church commends PCC in honor of Napela (from 2010)

Sounds to me like the Bishop of Honolulu honored the cultural center for recognizing the work of St. Damien of Molokai, who collaborated with Mr. Jonathan Napela (the Mormon missionary) in giving relief to lepers.
  1. This is the action of one bishop, not of the Holy See;
  2. He did not honor Napela alone, but honored the cultural center for recognizing the work of a Catholic Saint.
  3. This article is three years old. 😃

Thank you for the link.

The headline is a bit misleading. Instead of saying the “Catholic Church”, It should have read “Local Bishop”.

Also, do you realize that the mormons have done a proxy baptism for St. Damien, and sealed him to a “wife”.

Who havent they baptized and sealed to a wife? Even hitler got sealed and baptized. The Blessed Mother got baptized among countless other Catholics? Do they do the same to muslims Two?

In that case I really have to question this bishop. Not only has he put up this plaque but did so in a place belonging to a religion that committed direct sacrilege to one of his own faith’s members.

I realize that the Mormon church is very powerful in some places but that doesn’t make it right to play along with them.

Im not sure the CC is playing along with them (lds) They are trying to respect them just as much as the next religion. And the mormon church having power? Here in Utah and parts of the surrounding they have alot of control. But our Bishop accepts them in the love of Christ and how much better is it to ask them to participate than to leave them on the side of the road? 😃

The LDS Church cooperates with the Catholic Church quite a lot in humanitarian relief efforts throughout the world.

You are really very uninformed about Mormonism. It is embarrassing.

Yes, and even convicts are allowed out to help communities in times of need. What’s your point?

I am referring to his other posts on other threads as well, to which I have already responded.
So then this is just another one of your juvenile attempts to derail and dodge?

At least you’re consistent.

You made an accusation/assertion, back it up. Otherwise retract it.

You know, like your assertion on the other thread that you have failed to back up. Simply because you A) you can’t and B) you want to change the rules of what can be proven.

Quite the artful dodge aren’t you?

Hello king,
I'm an ex-LDS and I hang around at various ex Mormon forums. While the LDS baptize members for the dead, I never heard of them sealing dead husbands and wives.

All ordinances of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are also performed by proxy (“for the dead”) in their temples. So, once someone is baptized by proxy, confirmation, Melchizedek priesthood ordination (for men), Endowment, and sealing could also be performed. If the couple also had children, then they would also be sealed to their parents by proxy. I’ve done all of those ordinances for the deceased.

But they don’t invent husbands and wives for people who never had one. Some of the suggestions seem to be that that is what they do.

I’d venture to guess that while the vast majority of proxy sealings are done for couples that were married in this life, it seems like, at least in the past, certain people have submitted false information. For example:

Again, I’d bet that the vast majority of proxy sealings are legitimate.

I’m having trouble understanding what exactly the controversy is. The Church (i.e. the local Bishop) honored two people for their commitment to the corporal works of mercy, that ultimately required the sacrificing of their own lives.
