But if it is a Church-wide apology you want for all of the atrocities carried out by people who were Catholic, you are 6 years too late in your request. Don’t you remember Pope John Paul II’s Papal apology?
I think it is fair to say that for most of the time [99.9999% of it I’d say], the Church is a very peacful organisation. It not only promotes the spirit of love but uses its political muscle to speak out for the voiceless and those who have no voice of their own.

Yet, it seems that the world is full of those who would hurt her, bomb her burn her speak all manner of culumny and lies against her. Misquote her and otherwise misquote her teachings.

We know this will happen because her bridegroom [Christ] predicted it would happen.

There are now many fulltime organisations who are committed to attacking and destroying the Church. They are funded and have a full time staff. They are diametrically opposed to all that she teaches.

But there is one thing they have overlooked: Mat 16: 18-19; 28: 20; Jn 20:22-23.

Christ spoke this to His Church. Within the next 500-years there will be another 50,000 protestant sects come into existance. There will be another 250,000 interprations of sacred scripture. By the year 3000, those numbers will have grown to 1-million sects and 10-million interpretations of scripture and His church will still be One and she shall still prevail!

Why is St. Bartholomew’s always ignored around here? Part of confessing sins is to admit that you tried to kill my ancestors and did kill alot of their neighbours and friends.
Now if someone will fess up about St. Bartholomew’s Day we shall be even 🙂
First off, I only need to confess my sins, not those of the people responsible for St. Bartholomew’s Day. Therefore, there is no need for us to “fess up” to anything.

I am astonished the CC only tried to kill millions. Not a very furtile mind of its critics. I am sure with a little imagination, that could be turned around into billions!!
They’re working on it. Largest number I’ve ever heard is 150 million. It’s a wonder there’s a single European left alive.

Anyone who blieves that The RCC is Christs personal church should easily understand why it comes to much greater scrutiny for its sins than any other church. The claims of the authority that the bishops have holds them to a MUCH higher standard.

Well, I can say that there are times when we look thru the glass darkly.

I cant apologize for it as I am not in position to. I can tell you that the pain that you feel about this is something I will pray that you will be able to come to peace with eventually. If only because I know that in order for me to be forgiven I must forgive as well. I cant imagine your situation, but I can have compassion for you as my brother and hurt along with you. But, always always forgive.

Thank you for asking.

Hello Allforhim
Does anyone know if catholics and protestants are still killing each other in Ireland? I havent heard anything either because they finally stopped or the terrorists took over the news.
It’s the latter.
From what I understand the word RCC is used because the Romans Catholic Church is considered a different entity then the catholic(meaning universal) church
.
The term “Roman” Catholic actually started as a derogetory remark by the members of the Church of England. The RCC is one part of the Catholic Church. There are around 20 or so other parts or Rites to the Catholic Church that are headed by the successor of the see of Peter. These other Rites are often called Eastern Rite Catholics. They each have their own “pope”, and this pope is in union with the bishop of Rome. The Bishop of Rome can be elected from any of the Catholic Rites.

I seem to hear alot about how the RCC had millions of people killed throughout history.

My question is are there any other christian groups that have killed RCC’s or others? if so, can you show me a link or refer some books?
The reason you here that is because a lot of anti catholic sites use it most of it comes from propaganda generated during the reformation

👍 My last shared ancestor with Hugh O’Neill, last Earl of Ulster, is Conn Bacach O’Neill, Hugh’s grandfather. My direct ancestor, Turlough O’Neill was the last Earl’s cousin (their fathers were brothers).
I hereby apologize for the flight of the earls!
No need. You weren’t there… were you?
Now if someone will apologize to me for St. Bartholomews…😉
My only known French ancestor who was around at that time was a Huguenot. Seriously. 😃 He fled from Normandy to Canterbury, England and then to Ireland. He remained a Quaker all his life, but one of his sons, my direct ancestor, married into the Irish Catholic community.

My descent from the O’Neils comes from my 11th G-Grandfather Sir Ninian Stewart and my 7th G-Grandmother Mary Fox who married John McCurdy of Ballintoy.
My Hugeonot ancestor (Jacques de Chiel) fled from Lyon to Edinburgh, his grandson James Dashiell (notice the change in spelling) immigrated to Maryland and is the kickpoint of the entire Dashiell line in the Eastern US.
My 7th Cousin Dashiell Hammett was a well known Communist/Homosexual writer who wrote the Maltese Falcon:D

I’m sure we’re related in quite a few different ways. I know that there are a lot of overlapping branches on my tree that extend back to Niall of the Nine Hostages in about 20 different ways.

I met a little boy named Dashiell a while back. He was named after Dashiell Hammett. I didn’t realize the name came from a surname. That’s a pretty typical naming pattern, especially in the Southern states. You never know who you are going to find on your tree.

Sandmountainsli,

You have presented no documentary evidence that the Catholic Church tried to kill an ancestor of yours and you are asking for an apology from people who had nothing to do with what you maintain. Maybe I’ll start claiming that a Methodist tried to kill one of my ancestors and demand restitution from every single Methodist dead, alive and yet to be born. Unreasonable and stupid isn’t it? You claimed you are not bashing Catholic’s, but your repeated demand for an apology indicates otherwise.

Yes, the Greek Orthodox Church has directed pogroms towards Catholic Christians and other Christian denominations! This is a fact that the Greek Orthodox Church that killed millions throughout history. If you want some books, I’d advice you to read about the Balkan Wars, which were a religiously motivated war. We all know how Serb equals to Orthodox and Serb nationalism equals Orthodox fundamentalism, which could be called Christian terrorism.

It is an open secret that the Orthodox Patriarch of Belgrade, His Holiness Pavle directed genocide on Croats, Slovenes, Bosniaks and Albanians. The Patriarch issued a fatwa directing Slobodan Milosevic to kill every Catholic, Protestant, and Muslim.

Praise be to Jesus our Lord, who sent NATO to save the Catholics from the Butcher of the Balkans, Slobodan Milosevic, an Orthodox Christian fundamentalist. Milosevic is humanity’s greatest terrorist, yes, worst than Osama bin Ladin.

Slobodan Milosevic was canonised as a saint by an Orthodox synod, and he is known as Most Blessed Slobodan of Belgrade. He was canonised as a martyr who died resisting the War Crimes Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.

Also, there is another excellent book worth reading titled: War in Chechnya - A Crusade against Islam. It is written in Bahasa Melayu but if you can read it, its very interesting. This book describes the inner workings of the Orthodox theocracy, Russia, which is controlled by a power hungry dictator, His Holiness Aleksy II, who is puppet master of all Russians. Aleksy II appointed Vladimir Putin as Csar and directed him to commit pogroms against not just Muslims in Chechnya but also Catholics, Protestants, and Jehovah’s Witnesses.

So, please do NOT condemn Israel for occupying Palestine, a fictionous state, but first condemn Russia and Serbia. (etc)
AGAIN, Murtad?

You are repeating literally the same accusations (and the same inconsistencies… if not more) of your post #128 in this thread:
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=117074&page=3

If you have your pet hate with Serbia and Russia, that’s your business (perhaps supported by the fact the fact that other posters do not care to answer your claims). However, you are deliberately slinging mud on your Orthodox Christian brethren, and this is simply unacceptable.

Let me rebuke a few of your assertions:
  1. The “Greek Orthodox Church” is not the Serbian, nor the Russian Church. If you wish to point a fault of a particular Catholic nation, address THAT nation, and not the Catholic Church as a whole. Even more so, don’t accuse one particular nation of the faults (real or perceived) of another!
  2. Orthodox Patriarchs do not “issue fatwas”. They convene synods of bishops, and even if they happen to preside those synods, they have no authority to personally issue any doctrinal or disciplinary decree. Those who write the info that you are reporting are simply seeing Orthodox Christianity trough the veil of a thoroughly Muslim mentality. Small wonder you despise the Orthodox… but what you are being led to despise are NOT the real Orthodox Christians!
  3. Milosevic had been baptized in the Orthodox Church, and called himself an atheist. The Serbian Orthodox Church hold him as EXCOMMUNICATED, although he was not given any formal sentence of excommunication (a similar phenomenon to what the Catholic Church calls excommunication latae sententiae, that is automatic in effect). It WAS however proposed in a session of the Holy Synod of the Serbian Church to formally excommunicate him, and this already in 1995. The Serbian Church never changed this attitude.
  4. Your web source about “blessed Slobodan” seems always unavailable… but perhaps it will not be necessary to visit this masterpiece of historical accuracy. YOU yourself could enlighten us with regard to his canonization: How could an excommunicated atheist be made a saint? And if you say he was made so by a Synod, please be so kind and truthful as to name that Synod (time AND location, please)… or to start posting a bit of apology. The latter may be liked by the Christian mothers who are weeping on the graves of their young children in Beslan (doubtlessly killed in an anti-semitic Russian pogrom).

Interesting read:

Q. Did Protestants persecute Catholics?
A. Yes; in every country where the Reformed doctrines were received, Catholics were persecuted. C. Peterson Hooft, a Protestant, reproaches his Protestant countrymen of Holland thus: “Actuated by: hatred of cruelty, you rush yourselves into acts of cruelty; no sooner have you secured your freedom, than you wish to tyrannize over others.”—Hist. Reform. Ger. Brand., T. i, p. 333. Knox commenced the Reformation in Scotland, by being a party to the murder of Cardinal Beatoun. (Tytler’s Hist.of Scotland.) In l560, the Parliament established the Presbyterian re-
ligion, and ordered all the professors of the ancient faith to be punished with death. “With such indecent haste,” says Robertson, “did the very persons, who had just escaped ecclesiastical tyranny, proceed to imitate the example.” In 1596, the Presbytery, writing to the Ring and Council concerning the Earls of Huntly, Errol, &c., say that, “as they had been guilty of idolatry, a crime deserving of death, the civil power could not spare them.”

Q. Did the French Protestants persecute?
A. They rebelled against their sovereign, prohibited the Catholic religion, murdered the priests and religious, burnt the churches and convents, and dug up the dead to make bullets of their leaden coffins. (Maimbourg, Thuanus, Hist. Calv., Lib. 31.) Nic. Fromenteau, a Protestant, confesses, that in Dauphine alone, they killed two hundred and fifty-six priests and one hundred and twelve monks or friars. In these atrocities, the Protestant Baron des Adrets forced Catholic prisoners to jump from the towers upon the pikes of his soldiers, and obliged his own children to wash their hands in the blood of Catholics. (Liv.de Finance.)

Q. Did Protestant England persecute Catholic Ireland?
A. Dr. Curry has preserved, amongst many other martyrs, the names of twenty-seven priests, who suffered death on account of their religion. (Hist. of Civil Wars in Ireland, vol. i, p. 8.) See Spondanus and Pagi on the martyrdom of F. O’Hurle, the Catholic Archbishop of Cashel, a sanguinary deed, perpetrated by Sir W. Drury. See also Bourke’s Hibernia Dominicana, where the number of Irish martyrs, and the dreadful deaths they died, are given in detail.

Q. Did not the Duke of Alva boast, that, In the Low Countries, he had delivered eighteen thousand heretics to the executioners?
A. These heretics should have been called rebels, since, according to the Protestant writer Brand, they had conspired against the life of the duke, then Spanish governor, and put to death, in cold blood, all the priests and religious they could lay their hands upon. See Brand, Hist. Reform. des Pays Bas. Feller, Hist. Dict. art. Toledo, says, that Vandermerk slaughtered more unoffending Catholic priests and peasants in 1572, than Alva executed Protestants during his whole government. OK, one last try… family papers and general histories are not evidence that THE CATHOLIC CHURCH tried to kill one of your ancestors! I have already admitted that perhaps some Catholics did try to kill your family, but why would you expect people who had nothing to do with this to apologize to you??? ‘Ya see what I am saying here friend? You seem like a smart and reasonable person so please let it go! Any “apology” you would ever get would have no substance what so ever and would really be meaningless. Surely you can see this.

I will say I regret that people have been murdered in the name of God. Doing so is contrary to the teachings of Christ. That goes for everyone and the people that do so are NOT acting in the name of God, Christ, the Holy Spirit or any Christian church.

Is that Roger Waters from Pink Floyd? If so I never knew his name was George! Who knows! I’m still working on a complete family history. Perhaps I shall have as many famous ancestors as you some day.

Hey, if I can’t make it back later have a great Thanksgiving!
